Happy last day of the first quarter! Team Roosevelt had less missing assignments than the other 8th grade team and won the 8th Grade Duck back! Let's keep up that momentum second quarter!

Algebra
- Exit Ticket over sections 3-1 to 3-4 Monday October 23rd
- Calculator Lab Tuesday -Thursday Oct 23-26
- Monday, October 23rd Assigned IXL Lab DUE Tuesday, October 31st
- IXL LINKS Assigned: M18, M19, M20, M21, M22, (*M22 is a checkpoint link),
- Must complete at 80% Mastery or better for each link.

Important Information
- There is a school dance on Friday, October 27th from 6-8 pm. Students must be passing all classes to attend. Tickets will be sold during lunch for $3 or $5 at the door.
- 7th & 8th Grade girls Basketball begins Monday 10/23/2023. Right after school until 5. Contact Austin.Johnson@k12.sd.us
Homework
One thing we want to make sure everyone knows is that your student(s) should not have hours and hours of homework each day. If you notice this pattern occurring, please have a conversation with your student about how they are using their time in class, homeroom, and/or study hall.
IXL Deadlines for Algebra I
Algebra:
- They have been assigned an IXL Supplemental Sheet that has 50 links that they will be working on all year. There are two major deadlines for this assignment.
- There are no extensions(* unless approved by me) for these assignments.
- Deadline #1: Must have 30 Links completed with an 80% Mastery Score done by December 18th
- Deadline #2: Must have ALL 50 completed with an 80% Mastery Score by April 8th

TeenTober is a nationwide celebration hosted by libraries every October and aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and innovative ways libraries help teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions.

Policy Reminders
Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices:
A phone is available in the office for student use in case of emergency. Cellular phones, smart devices, and blue tooth electronics are not allowed in classes. If it is necessary for the student to bring such a device to school, it is to be turned off and kept in the student’s locker during school hours. Cell phones or electronic devices that cause a disruption or are used during class/school time will be taken away. The first offense is one detention, the phone or electronic device is confiscated and may be retrieved at the end of the day by the student. The second offense, and any subsequent offense is two detentions, phone or electronic device is confiscated and parents must pick up the device from the office. Students who accumulate four cell phone offenses will be required to turn in their cell phone, at the beginning of each school day, in the office for the remainder of the school year. Parents needing to contact students at school may be do so through the office.
Dakota Dreams Online Tutoring Program
Based on feedback provided last school year on the Dakota Dreams Online Tutoring, we revised our program to better accommodate the needs of your students.
In addition to offering students homework help, a new feature called Tutor Tracks will be added to the Dakota Dreams Online Tutoring Program this school year. Tutor Tracks offers a series of seven-week, curriculum-based sessions helping elementary and middle school students build skills in the areas of Reading, Grammar and Math. These tutor-led lessons are online, totally free and with tutors who are university students training to be teachers at Black Hills State University and Northern State University students.
Details:
- Parents register their students for Tutor Tracks (application opens August 1 on ourdakotadreams.com)
- Students meet with their tutor 2x per week over 7 weeks
- First term includes two session options:
September 11 through October 27, 2023 (Reading and Grammar available)
October 30 through December 15, 2023 (Reading, Grammar and Math available)
Available Lessons:
-Reading lessons will be offered to 1-8th grade students
-Grammar lessons offered will be offered to 3-8th grade students
-Math lessons will be offered to 3-8th grade students
