Cheetah Wrap Up
A Quote from Calvin Coolidge
“Christmas is not a time or a season but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” ~ Calvin Coolidge
Calvin Coolidge was our 30th President and perhaps not quite as well remembered as some who came both before and after him. However, in light of what is happening around the world and even in our own country, I thought this quote was one we should all stop and think about and more importantly put into practice.
Each December we teach our younger students the difference between "wants" and "needs “and we sponsor a drive to support a specific charitable organization. Today we completed collecting for Loudoun Mobile Hope and on Monday we will begin our Toys for Tots campaign. It is wonderful to see our students excited to be helping others and I think it is a good way for us to promote philanthropy.
However, I think we need to, as President Coolidge said have good will, peace, and mercy towards others as a regular state of mind, not thought, felt, and practiced in one season. I believe that our young people have the power to change the world and it is up to us as parents, teachers, mentors, and friends to support and encourage them to live and practice peace, goodwill, and mercy every day.
Our tag line is Learning Today and Leading Tomorrow. We will continue to give our students opportunities to learn and more importantly practice what they learn, so that they have all the skills needed to lead intelligently, peacefully, mercifully, and with good will towards others.
