Hunter Elementary Newsletter
March 2021
Dear Hunter Elementary Families and Friends,
Hunter is home to the brightest and most intelligent students AND teachers in Meridian! We strive to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful, not only today but as future adults. Every school knows this, but it is always great to have a reminder: Together We Make a Difference! You are our students' first teachers and we proudly take on the responsibility to give your students more than we ever could imagine in instruction, love, and accountability. Work with us to prepare our future leaders to be exceptional citizens!
As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, spring fever is bound to hit, which can often times warrant unwanted behaviors. Historically, our behavior referrals have increased in March by nearly double any other month of the year. We are taking a proactive approach this year to encourage positive behaviors and no referrals.
Please help encourage positive behaviors at home by reviewing schoolwide expectations regularly. Our school expectations are:
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Be Kind

Virtual Calming Room
This site is meant to serve as a place to find relaxation tools for students and to have a short brain break from the stress and rigor of their academic lessons. Although every effort has been made to ensure that each of these sites are free from advertisements and donation solicitations, we recommend a parent or guardian oversees what site their child is accessing.
Although these sites can be helpful, please keep in mind that an excess amount of screen time can have negative impacts. Here are just a few of the negative impacts parents should be aware of.
6 NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TOO MUCH SCREEN TIME FOR KIDS
- Sleep deprivation
- Obesity
- Vision Problems
- Aches and pains

Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year
It is once again time for us to begin thinking about the coming school year. For teachers this means planning for curriculum, programs, budget, materials, and of course, deciding on class placements.
Class placement decisions are among the most important decisions that we make each year. We want every child to experience the joy in learning and we know the classroom composition, style and environment can affect each student’s success. As you may well imagine, it is a great challenge to attend to the needs of each child as an INDIVIDUAL and to the needs of each classroom as a WHOLE.
If you would like to put in writing some information describing the learning environment you feel works best for your child, as well as the areas of success and concerns, you may click the link below: Student Placement Information Form. We will consider your feedback as part of our class placement process. Some final reminders:
- This form is due by Friday, April 2nd by 4:00 p.m.
- All class placements are tentative through August 2021.
- Please also take a few minutes to update your students PowerSchool information. If you have not updated after March 1st you will not be able to view the classroom teacher in August until you have updated your student’s account.
- First day of school for 2021-2021 school year will be Thursday, August 26th, 2021.
The creation of balanced classrooms, which takes many factors into consideration, is by no means a scientific process. Be assured that we will work to keep the best interests of each child in mind as we make classroom placement decisions. Your support and understanding as we move through this process will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
