Please note that on two hour delays breakfast will not be served.
You can pay online with efunds or send cash/check in with your child. If you are sending money in, please put it in an envelope with your child's first and last name, student ID number and their teacher. Student ID numbers can be written in the memo line of checks. Please do not use nicknames or just your child's first name. Remind your child to turn the envelope in to their teacher.
When having lunch with your child please remember to not bring in fast food for yourself or your child due to various allergies students may have. You can certainly bring a lunch for home or purchase a lunch at the Café.
Counselor's Corner
I had the privilege of visiting the kindergarten and first grade classrooms this week. We discussed what should happen if you do something on accident. We discussed it is important to accept responsibility for an accident to prevent others from assuming it was intentional. We also practiced what words to use if something happens on accident such as, "I'm sorry. It was an accident. Are you okay?" I enjoyed visiting your child's classroom and look forward to visiting again soon.

Note from the Nurse
As we start the cold months - a few health tips:
Water! Water! Water!!! Please encourage your child to drink water. It helps rejuvenate and flush the body system, and with the air so dry, it keeps the body hydrated decreasing nose bleeds.
Remind your child to take the time to Wash! Wash! Wash your hands!!! It truly helps stop germs from spreading.
Fever: If your child has a fever > 100.0, they MUST stay home for 24 hrs fever free without use of fever reducing medicine.
Vomiting: Any student who has vomited due to illness must stay home from school and must be vomit free for 24 hrs before returning to school
Recess: All students are expected to participate in recess each day. District Policy states that the students will go outside if the temperature is above 15 degrees with the wind chill factored in. Students not able to participate may bring a note from home or from their physician. School policy only allows a student to use a note from home for three days, after which the parent note must be replaced by a Dr’s note. Parents need to communicate any recess excuse to the nurse and the teacher. So PLEASE, dress your child appropriately with coats, hats and mittens. You can take layers off but you can't put them on if you don't have them!

Important Car Rider Line Information
It is always necessary to remain mindful of the importance of safety as our students arrive and dismiss from school. We have recently experienced concerns with arrival, and we ask that you review our arrival procedures to prevent any accidents from occurring. While we understand schedules get busy and it is often inconvenient to wait in car lines to drop off students, we can all agree there is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our children. If your schedule does not allow you time to wait in the car rider line, please consider having your child use the bus transportation that HSE provides. Thank you for making the safety of your child and the children of everyone in our school community the number one priority.
· A staff member will be on duty to receive your child. All car riders should enter at the front of the school.
· Please do NOT use your phone, computer or any electronic device while in the car rider line.
· Please have your child exit from the passenger side of the vehicle. Students should stay in their seat belts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car.
· Students should exit the car in front of the school entrance. Please do NOT release students to walk along the sidewalk next to moving cars as they attempt to reach the school entrance.
· Do NOT drop off or pick up your child from a car parked in the parking lot. Not only does this create an unsafe situation for your child, but it also causes challenges for those who are waiting in line as requested.
· Remain in a single line and do NOT pass cars that have stopped to release students. A cone is placed to signal the traffic flow. Please do NOT create a safety situation by attempting to drive around the cone or by exiting your car to move the cone.
· Please use extreme caution in our parking lot in the morning and afternoon as both are high-traffic times.

Lost and Found
We have a lot of items starting to accumulate on the table. Please have your student check it out if they are missing items.
Harrison Parkway Elementary has a Lost & Found located outside of the Music Room for any lost items. At the end of each month, we will be donating any leftover items to charities that serve people in need.
Report a Student Absence
If your child will be absent from school, please contact us at (317) 915-4210. You may call and leave a message on our attendance line anytime before 8:00 a.m. After 8:00 a.m., our office staff will be available to speak with you and document your child's absence. It is important to let us know your child will be absent or late arrival prior to 9:00 a.m.
If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at least one week prior to the absence. If you notify your child's teacher of an absence via email, please make sure you also contact the office by phone or email (apowell@hse.k12.in.us) to ensure that attendance is marked appropriately.
Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for “SafeVisitor” (there is no space in between the words).
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tobi Fields at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.

Non-discrimination and Non-harassment Information

Discrimination of any type is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated at HSEHS Schools – this includes sexual harassment (Title IX) and discrimination based on disabilities or race (Titles II and VI).
If students ever experience any type of harassment, we ask that they report this immediately to an administrator, school counselor or trusted adult. Text-A-Tip
Text-A-Tip is a program that allows students, parents or others to anonymously send a text or email message to our school resource officers and school administrators about concerns they may have for their own safety or the safety of others. Text-A-Tip will be actively monitored during the school day. It should not be used for emergencies—Call 911 if you need immediate help.
