If we have not heard from you by tomorrow your child will have to sit out both of the field trips. ;0(
Class T-Shirts
T-shirt order forms and money are due this coming Wednesday. We wear these shirts many times throughout the year; including on the field trips. Please make sure your order is turned in by Wed. or contact your homeroom teacher to make other arrangements.
Math News
Please encourage your student to review/practice the multiplication facts each night. This will help with solving multiplication problems involving three digit numbers by 2 digit numbers with regroups along with order of operation problems. There is a multiplication chart in the student planner.
English & Language Arts
Writing:
This week we are working on "Grabbers/Hooks" at the beginning of our writing. Please make sure your students are practicing these in their P.A.W. packets (Paragraph a Week). This week’s topic is their favorite subject. Make sure they FILL UP the entire page each night and are doing their personal best. Remember for typing practice have them type the final paragraph! I will be collecting these on Friday.
Reading:
Last week we started working on finding the main idea and details of a text. We will be continuing to work on the same this week. You can help them practice this at home by reading any text together and separating out the main idea and details. Let your student be the "teacher" and show you how it is done.
I will be checking your child's reading log on Tues. They should be reading approx. 30min. every night, loging it, and having you sign it. Also, remember they are to read and take AR quizzes on 4 books each month as part of their reading grade.
Spelling:
We are working on spelling list 5 this week. Test on Friday
Vocabulary:
We have new "comics" this week as well as new prefixes. Make sure to read the comics each night with your child. I will send home a crossword puzzle on Wednesday to help review for the test on Thursday.

Social Studies News
We will be finishing up our US Maps this week. This is a big project worth a lot of points ( 200 pts. to be exact ) encourage your student to do their best.
Next week is Freedom week. We will spend a lot of time on lessons and activities that focus on this topic. Make sure to ask your student what they are doing in class.
Technology in Mrs. B's classroom
Starting this week students are welcome to bring in eReaders, tables, and other devices (no gaming devices) to use as a resource in our classroom. I have several programs that students can utilize with personal devices. With only 4 laptops in the classroom personal devices are a great way to extend the lessons.
On Fridays I like to do a Quiz Show that reviews different things we have worked on this week. If your student cannot bring in a personal device don't worry! They probably won't be the only one. I just have them buddy or team up! They love to work in teams to try and beat me.
While Fridays are quiz show days electronics are welcome at anytime as long as the following rules are followed:
1. Devices are for educational use only. No games or free play. No exceptions.
2. Devices are the soul responsibility of the student. I keep our classroom locked when we are not in there, but that is all the security I have. ;0)
3. Any student found using their device in a manner other than what is instructed will have it "snatched" by Mrs. B and only a parent can come and retrieve it from me.
