Earthquake Relief for Mexico
Two weeks ago, Prestwood students read about the devastation of the earthquake in Mexico. Two of those students decided that we need to do something about it and decided to start a Prestwood coin drive to support the school in Mexico City that collapsed. These students will be coming around to classes on Tuesday and Friday morning to collect any coin donations that students might bring. Thank you for your support as we help our students with this service effort.

Odyssey of the Mind
We're gearing up for the 2017-2018 season of Odyssey of the Mind! If your child is interested, please email melissa.afterman@gmail.com no later than October 17th to sign up for a pre-season workshop. Please include your child's name and grade level and teacher; we'll send an email with more info prior to the workshops (to be held in the second half of this month; we ask for a $5 donation per student for workshop supplies). The focus of the workshops is helping the students decide if they would like to be part of an Odyssey team for long-term challenge work and participate in the Regional Tournament on February 24th. Students who did Odyssey last year do not need to attend a workshop, but please email melissa to confirm your participation (if you have not already done so).
About Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime. Odyssey of the Mind participants typically meet for several months to practice problem-solving and team-building activities in preparation for their regional tournament (ours is held in Santa Rosa in March). In December, students who want to compete in the tournament will be organized into teams of 5-7 kids, and will select a single long-term problem to solve and prepare materials for to present at the regional tournament. The long-term problems are pre-determined each year by Odyssey of the Mind, and usually include a “vehicle” problem, a mechanical problem, a “classics” problem involving art, literature and/or history, a balsa wood structure problem and a strictly dramatic problem. Students will compete against other teams solving the same problem in their age division. The teams are also given spontaneous problems to solve the day of tournament. Their solution involves brainstorming, teamwork, fast on your feet thinking, and sometimes risk taking. Though teams may practice for this segment, the specifics of the spontaneous problem are always a surprise at the tournament.

Amazon Affiliates
Do you shop on Amazon? Yes! Great!
Did you know that Prestwood PTO has a special Amazon.com "affiliate account" which means we can earn between 4% and 8.5% of purchases made through our Amazon Affiliates link on our Prestwood website. There are Amazon links on the Prestwood home page and Fundraising page under the Parents tab. Use this link to shop on Amazon! This is considerably more than the 0.5% earnings Prestwood receives from the AmazonSmile program. If you shop directly at Amazon without using the Prestwood Amazon Affiliates link,Prestwood does not receive any funds.
This is an awesome way to support Prestwood and there is no cost to you. You will have access to the same products, features, services, and great low prices. The shopping/user experience is identical to Amazon.com with the added benefit that the Amazon Affiliatesprogram has to give. This summer, Prestwood Amazon shoppers have raised over $550 for our school library to purchase new books!
Think of our kids! Think of the money the PTO can raise by using the Prestwood Amazon site! Please take that extra step and use our Amazon portal. Thank you!!!! https://www.sonomaschools.org/domain/551

Objetos perdidos
¡Gracias! Https: //www.sonomaschools.org/domain/551
