Sierra Verde Weekly Update

March 5, 2021

Vipers Have Spirit!

Thanks to Student Council, we had a fabulous March Spirit Week which aligned with Read Across America Week. We saw some fabulous outfits and it was great to see our Vipers and staff making reading the primary focus of our week. We hope our kids continue to make some time at home to read daily for at least 15 minutes to make it a habit and read for pleasure.

As we head into the last week of 3rd quarter, just a reminder that next Friday we have a 1/2 day with a 12:05 pm release (11:50 am for walkers/riders). Our office will close early on Friday, March 12 at 1:00 pm to allow our staff to attend the 2nd round of the DVUSD vaccination event for staff. When we return back from Spring Break, we enter state testing season and our teachers are using all the remaining instructional days to review concepts in preparation for the AZM2 test that all 3rd-8th grade students take annually.

Last Call for Yearbooks

Our yearbook order deadline is March 15, and this year there will not be extra yearbooks available for purchase once they have run the intitial print. If you want a yearbook for 20-21, all orders must be placed by 3/15. To preorder your yearbook, visit and search for SIerra Verde.

Thank you all for continuing to spread the word about our Open Enrollment for 21-22! We have seen our applications pick up and would like to encourage everyone to continue to spread the word to open enroll ASAP as spaces are starting to go quickly. Parents can go to, visit our office, or call us 623-376-4800!

Spring Sports

We are going to have a softball and baseball season! The season will be shortened, but they will be playing 5 games this year. If your child is interested in playing softball or baseball, please make sure they are registered and CLEARED on Register My Athlete BEFORE tryouts. We do NEED more players to sign up for both sports at this moment.

Tryouts start on Monday, March 22nd, right after school. They will need their own glove, but we do have bats and helmets they can use. They will also need their water bottle to fill up during tryouts/practice and games as well and appropriate clothes to wear. Games will start Monday, April 5th.

Please check our SV athletics' website page for an updated schedule. We will be asking parents to drive/carpool to away games this year due to a shortage in bus drivers and the athletic fee will be waived. However, if you would like to make a donation of $30 to SV Athletics, that would be GREAT! (checks or Money Orders only) If you have any questions, please contact me, Mrs. Cullen (

Field Day 2021

Next week we have our annual PE led Field Days at SV, we will have three different sessions by grade bands. Thursday morning will be Middle School, Thursday afternoon will be 4-6 Grade, and Friday Morning will be our K-3 Field Day. Be sure to send students dressed for a fun day as we head into Spring Break! On Friday, please be sure our K-3 Vipers have their water, hat, and come with sunscreen already applied.

Tax Time

Don't miss out on making your money count this tax season! Make a Tax Credit Donation directly to Sierra Verde online at or drop a check/money order off in the front office.

A state tax credit will allow you to reduce the amount of your tax liability to the state OR increase your refund from the state. Anyone with or without children, married or single is eligible for this unprecedented state tax credit up to $400 married/$200 single (please consult your tax advisor to determine how the tax credit will affect your personal tax return).

Donations received between January 1 - April 15 can be applied to previous year taxes or the current year Arizona state taxes.

DVUSD Annual Career Fair

On Friday, April 16 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, DVUSD will host its annual career event. This year it will be virtual, but there are plenty of job openings across the district in a variety of fields. Be sure to register by texting DEERVALLEY to 25000.

Covid Reporting/Face Mask/Water Bottle Reminder

As always, please continue to report a positive Covid result for any student, or a confirmed close contact with a positive person. Once you are aware of either of these two circumstances, please report the positive result or close contact using the DVUSD reporting tool. This will then notify Sierra Verde and we will get in touch with you to determine how long the student must quarantine before returning to campus.

DVUSD New Early Relase from Close Contact Quarantine Policy:

A student can be released early from the 10 day quarantine and may return on Day 8 or after if the student receives a negative COVID-19 test result beginning on Day 6 of the quarantine or after and the student has been symptom free since exposure. (Day 0 is the most recent date of close contact exposure to the COVID-19 positive person.) Proof of a negative test must be provided to the school before the student will be allowed to return.

Also, please remember to send students to school with a refillable water bottle or hydroflask that they can refill throughout the day along with at least two facemasks in case they get dropped or soiled. We always have extras of both on campus, but we are quickly running through our supply.

Spring Break Reminder

Remember that SV will be closed for Spring Break from March 12-21. School will resume on March 22, and our offices will reopen accordngly.

Have a Great Weekend!
