PRINCIPAL ENGDALL’S TOP FIVE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE A TAX CREDIT CONTRIBUTION TO SHAW MONTESSORI

5. Individuals can make a tax credit contribution up to $200 or $400 for married couples and deduct that amount directly from your Arizona tax return!

4. Our chickens love to be fed!

3. Funds can be used for fun field trips!

2. The work in our outdoor environments is crucial to a well-rounded Montessori experience. Tax credit dollars help fund our outdoor environment teachers!

And the Number One reason you should give a tax credit contribution to Shaw Montessori: You can expose our students to new opportunities and truly change their lives in a positive way, and it is as easy as going to: phxschools.org/district/about/tax-credit/ or snipping the coupon below and submitting to the school office. The 2021 deadline for a contribution is April 15th!

Covid cases: 2

Close Contact: 2

We tested 161 students/staff at our weekly Pooled Testing and one student did test positive for Covid 19; he did not have any symptoms. We had one other student who tested positive this week. This student was not in school all week.

Parents, there is no longer a mandatory 3 days out for students who have any Covid symptom but if a student has a fever, which in our district is considered 100.0, they must stay home until 24 hours have passed without taking fever-reducing medication. Of course, if your student is ill they need to be kept home. Remember to call the Attendance Line at 602.257.3914 to report the absence. If you have any questions for the nurse please call me at 602.257.3900. Rose School Nurse

What does the word SUCCESS mean to you?

Success means different things for different people. For students it might be finishing your homework or doing well on a test. For adults it might be paying your bills on time or doing a kind thing for a stranger each day. For some, it may mean saving enough money to retire early.

In times when you are not feeling successful, reorganize your thoughts and identify what you are accomplishing rather than what you are not. I think one of the best ways to define success is being grateful for what you have in a precise moment.

So think about what Success means to you…

Garden Update

Big picture

Greetings!

We continued our WATER block this week and learned how little water is available for human consumption. The students looked at ratios of saltwater to freshwater, groundwater to above-ground water, and solid to liquid water types. We also looked at evaporation in a cup. This experiment mimics the water cycle and gives the students a visual of this process (sometimes my scribbles don’t suffice).

We did a lot more planting! Some seedlings have already sprouted, and this week’s rainstorm will surely give rise to many more. Watching our seedlings sprout is long and tedious part of gardening. Hopefully, all the students are learning some patience during this period.

Our rooster will arrive over spring break. Tell the littles to get their time with the chickens now because our feathered friends will be on house arrest for the remainder of March and the beginning of April. The chicks will be available in April for purchase. Let me know if you would like any.

ALL of our tree plantings have been scheduled. APS will work with a group of volunteers to plant 10 trees on Monroe St. on March 3rd. The remaining 16 trees are scheduled for March 30th. The students will work with Trees Matter to plant the 16 trees around campus on March 30th. APS volunteers only on March 3rd. Please mind the tree holes and these operation days.

We need a propane tank for the grill. If any parent has an extra that they would like to donate we will happily accept one. We also need a plumber to help install the plumbing for this outdoor kitchen. There are some funds in the budget to support this install. If you know anyone please contact me by email or leave the contact with Teresa at the front office.

We can always use coffee grounds and can donations. Please make sure the coffee grounds have been brewed. You can pick up used grounds at Starbucks for free. NO MORE SINGLE BREW PLASTIC CUPS PLEASE! We also prefer that your cans are uncrushed (the small kiddos love this task), however, we will accept crushed cans as well. You can drop them off at the table outside of the front office entrance.

The garden program has partnered with a muralist and Ms. Ketchum to create a bottle cap mural in the field garden. We will be collecting bottle caps until March 31st. Please drop off all multi-colored plastic caps at the front office or send them to school with your child. After the 31st there will be color sorting, design and installation of the mural. SUPER COOL!

We still need your Home Depot donations. Even $25.00 is a huge contribution. Here’s the link to Home Depot gift cards: https://www.homedepot.com/c/Gift_Cards
