Melinda Heights Mountain Lions ROAR
A PBIS Gold Award Winning School!
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Your Melinda Heights staff spent a full school year defining our school wide values and supports that will help your children continue to thrive.
The Melinda Heights ROAR represents our Mountain Lion family.
Our ROAR Pledge:
I'm a Melinda Heights Mountain Lion
R: I am RESPONSIBLE
O: I OWN my choices
A: I ACT with integrity
R: I show RESPECT
Why PBIS?
All students enhance their social, emotional, and behavioral competence by
- Regularly reviewing their school’s agreed upon school-wide social values.
- Frequently experiencing specific recognition when they engage in expected behavior
- Extending expected behaviors to all parts of the school, especially in classrooms to enhance their academic engagement and success
- Experiencing predictable instructional consequences (reteaching) for problem behavior without inadvertent rewarding of problem behavior
- Using a common language for communication, collaboration, play, problem solving, conflict resolution, and securing assistance
The ROAR Store
Students earn ROAR tickets for displaying fabulous ROAR behavior. These ROAR tickets may be "spent" weekly in the ROAR store! Items such as erasers, highlighters, stickers, and snacks are available for purchase. Students may also use ROAR Tickets for Late Homework Passes, Lunch with the Teacher, Read to a Kindergarten Class, help in another teacher's classroom and even have their name put on the marquee for a whole week! Our Mountain Lions love ROAR tickets!
ROAR Store Shoppers
The ROAR Store is open for "business" two days a week!
Hundreds of ROAR Tickets
Teachers, paraprofessionals, Playground Assistants... our entire staff love to give ROAR tickets to our amazing students.
It doesn't look like much...
The ROAR Store keeps growing! Our students are on the lookout for more opportunities to earn ROAR tickets.
The Behavior Referral: Rethink Your ROAR
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support and that is what we are about at Melinda! Sometimes, however, students choose not to follow the ROAR behavior expectations, and in those instances, consequences are put into place. Parent communication is incredibly important, and we rely on support from our parents in order to help us teach appropriate ROAR behavior. Teachers created the "Rethink Your ROAR" form in order to document behaviors and share them with parents. Behavior infractions are classified as either "Minor" or "Major," depending on the severity of the issue. If a student receives a "Rethink Your ROAR" form for a minor infraction, it is sent home as a form of communication; to encourage a conversation at home about behaviors. These forms do not become part of a student's permanent record. Major (and some minor) behavior issues are handled by the administration.
Need Assistance?
Supporting our students and their families is our priority at Melinda Heights. At Melinda Heights, we want all children to ROAR. Their academic, social-emotional and behavioral well being are priorities. If you have any questions or concerns, your child's teacher should be your first contact. You are welcomed to request assistance through this form: Request for Assistance Form
