Weekly WOW - September 19
East Vincent Elementary School
GREETINGS FROM EV PRINCIPAL, MS. SEELEY
Dear East Vincent Elementary School Family,
Thank you to our staff volunteers who assisted with the supply pick-up on Wednesday. They were calm and focused as we distributed well over 400 bags, most of them during the 4:00 hour. Many thanks to our continued support from you and the entire EV community as we caused quite a stir on 23 and Bridge St. on Wednesday at 4:00. We appreciate your patience and grace as we did not expect nearly 200 cars to arrive at 4:00 on the dot! Lesson learned!
This edition of the WOW includes information about important dates, thank you, EV family in need, teacher absence, student attendance reminders, supply pick-up, school-wide positive behavior, EV building goals, staff spotlight, tips and tricks exchange, and spread the news.
The last edition of the WOW included important dates, Back to School Nights, student supply pick-up event, Accelerate Education, tech support, Flex Wednesdays, attendance, dismissal notes, Skyward update, and staff spotlight.
Be well,
Ms. Seeley

THANK YOU
We are so fortunate to have our parents, guardians, grandparents, neighbors, friends, and more as our allies during this journey. We have been gifted with a supportive community, and we are most appreciative that you share additional tokens of gratitude with us.
On Wednesday, EV staff was treated to a yummy lunch by eleven EV families. Thank you for filling our bellies and warming our hearts.
EV FAMILY IN NEED: MEAL TRAIN
Meri Kramer, AJ's (3rd, Miss Cole) and Bailey's (5th, Miss Taglieri) mom, is battling cancer. She's had one surgery and starts radiation and chemotherapy soon. For now, the family is in need of meals twice/week since they need to make frequent trips to Philadelphia for appointments and soon for treatments. At some point, they will need helpers to assist with drives to/from Penn.
A couple quick notes: The family eats lightly, and they are not big on sweets. Please share meals in containers that do not need to be returned. Meals can be dropped off at Meri's home.

WHEN YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER IS ABSENT
When one of our EV teachers is absent and cannot work remotely, your child will have asynchronous (independent) work to complete for the day. Your child's teacher or Ms. Seeley will notify you, so you are aware.
If you need help when your child's teacher is absent, contact evoffice@ojrsd.net and someone will respond.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
Call the EV attendance line if your child is going to be late or absent at 610-469-5688. School starts at 8:30 a.m. Monday-Friday.
If your child needs to leave early, you must send an email to evoffice@ojrsd.net and your child's teacher even if your child attends OJR Cyber Academy or the virtual blended plan.
AT-HOME MONITORING GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS
In accordance with our Phased Reopening Health and Safety Plan, students must be screened at home before coming to school. This document will include the symptoms to look for and parameters for temperature taking. No students with symptoms or fevers will be allowed on the bus or at school. Parents must notify the school if the absence is due to COVID-19 symptoms. To self-report symptoms, please call into the attendance hotline and include the symptoms the student is experiencing. A school nurse will call you to gather more information and provide guidance. Any individual on school property who develops COVID-19 symptoms, tests positive for COVID-19, or is suspect for COVID-19 must be directed immediately to the school nurse and isolation room until dismissal from school is possible.
Read on for specific instructions for at-home monitoring, returning symptomatic students to school, and returning students to school after having close contact with someone with COVID-19.
SUPPLY PICK-UP
If you missed the EV supply pick-up on Wednesday, not to worry! We have your child's supplies labeled in the EV vestibule. Stop by between 7:30 am and 4:00 p.m.
Through the year, we'll have additional pick-up and drop-off events. Stay tuned for another pick-up events for our students in grades 4-5 as the Accelerate workbooks just arrived.
SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM: GO CATS
During the first few weeks of school, all staff and students explicitly teach and model expected behavior using the school-wide positive behavior system, Go CATS! Added to the mix, we will learn and practice expectations as a digital citizen.
How can you partner with us? Discuss Go CATS expectations with your child. Model and acknowledge Go CATS behaviors at home too. Your child could even set up his/her own acknowledgement system of CAT Cash or similar. Send us your photos and stories if your child creates an at-home acknowledgement system. We'd love to see and share it!
EV BUILDING GOALS
Each year, we draft building goals for the EV community. The building goal categories include student growth and achievement, safe and caring environment, and climate and culture. Stay tuned as we share more information about our building goals for the 2020-2021 school year.
STUDENT GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT: ACCELERATE EDUCATION

SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT: SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)
Submitted by the Social Emotional Learning Building Goal Team:
Teachers have been working around the clock to provide classroom community building activities into their virtual lessons. With the teachers being live throughout the day, they have had a strong focus in getting to know students and getting in the routine of our new learning environment. The teachers will continue to put a strong emphasis on social emotional learning for the next several weeks and throughout the rest of the school year.
Staff is working diligently to begin and end each day with much needed Social and Emotional Learning experiences for students, for both in-person and virtual learners. We recognize that parents and caregivers are also working hard to make it all happen in support of their children, and we all know that sometimes adults forgo our own social and emotional health while we juggle everything else. Children learn the most from the adults at home so modeling how we prioritize SEL and working on these goals together makes it more engaging and fun! Please check out the attached "Back to School Care Package," provided free for all families by Big Life Journal, for some great ideas to take the guess work out. We appreciate all the amazing adults at home in our students' lives!
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
MRS. ROMANIELLO, INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEACHER
I began my teaching career in New Jersey in 2000 teaching both special and regular education. After ten years I met my husband and moved to this area. I was fortunate enough to be hired at East Coventry where I spent ten years instructing both fourth and fifth grades. I have my principal certification, an MS in School Leadership, as well as an MA in Social and Emotional Learning. I am looking forward to serving the students and community at East Vincent in the instructional support services role.
MRS. HENRY, THIRD GRADE TEACHER
Hello! I graduated from Albright College in 2017 with my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, and I am currently working towards my Masters in Special Education. I absolutely love my job and have worked towards becoming a teacher since I was in first grade! I have been married for 2 years and we just adopted an adorable Australian Shephard named Scout!
TIPS AND TRICKS EXCHANGE
At day 3 of virtual learning my 2nd grader was complaining of headaches and of her eyes hurting. She had a melt down and had a difficult time finishing the day. Someone suggested blue light filtering glasses. So I went on amazon and bought blue light filtering glasses. A full week later and my daughter has not complained of headaches or her eyes hurting since!! Hopes this helps other kiddos out there! - Joanna Binelli, Avia's Mom, grade 2
My daughter has trouble sitting for long periods so she has been making bracelets with her rainbow loom during class. Her friend finger weaves during class and it really helps with the fidgeting. - Nicole Keegan, Julianne's mom, grade 3
Have you found a way to make life easier during virtual learning? We're all in this together! Share your tip or trick with Ms. Seeley at cseeley@ojrsd.net to add to our Weekly WOW newsletters. Pictures welcome!
