Student Government Update
This semester, along with the rest of the University, we have had to alter our meetings to be completely remote due to the current pandemic. Although we would much rather meet in person, we have been very successful in our efforts to make our Zoom meetings seem more normal. Our weekly meetings occur at 4pm on Thursdays for any member of the WSU community interested in joining.
We have exciting news that our President, Jaymi-Lyn Souza, triumphantly proposed in front of the Academic Policies Committee a motion to have the pass/fail policy changed for the Fall 2020 semester. This policy was voted in favor for with a few minor changes in which individual departments make decisions regarding being able to pass/fail a major or minor requirements. Nonetheless, this policy change took a lot of weight off of students’ shoulders, as this semester has been much more challenging than others being mostly remote.
Another update from SGA is that this week we met with Dr. Boyd and his team of the Consulting Group for the WSU Police. During this time, we had a very pleasant conversation about our experiences or any concerns we had regarding the University Police. We were very grateful to share our experiences, and the group was very thankful to receive feedback from students themselves.
After winter break we are thrilled to be hosting an event on campus. This event will supply students materials to be able to make a pin about something they are passionate about. More updates about the event will be available as we approach spring semester.
Lastly, we wanted to share that we still have 8 vacant positions on student government. To any student who is interested, please contact jsouza2@worcester.edu to find out more!
