MEF Teacher Tributes
It’s that time of year to celebrate our students and teachers and the perfect way to do that is with a gift to the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF). With increasing requests to the MEF by our district community for educational initiatives for our children, the need for your support is greater than ever! Either through Senior Signs, Teacher Tributes or a direct donation, your gift supports our mission through innovative classroom grants, cultural arts, and community education programs, which impact all 5,700 students throughout our 10 schools in the Morris School District. Go to the link and donate today! MEF
Book Club
Our Book Club session was a great success this month! We had 12 children with their families all listening to the story, "I need a hug!" which was read in English and Spanish. After the story, everyone made a necklace craft that they will use for future hug requests! Our next date is May 23rd at 5:30!

Health News
May = Mental Health Month - More than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime (CDC, 2021). Mental health is important at every stage of life. It continuously affects how we think, feel and act and plays an important role in our physical and social well-being. Practicing mindfulness, eating a well-balanced diet, engaging in physical exercise and getting a good night’s rest have been proven to help improve mental health. Helpful links:
Sun Safety
Sun safety is always in season. Everybody needs some sun exposure to produce vitamin D (which helps calcium absorption for stronger and healthier bones). It’s important to protect your skin from sun damage throughout the year, no matter the weather. Even though sunburns and tan lines fade, sun exposure goes on the permanent health record. Too much sun exposure can cause sunburn, skin aging, eye damage, and skin cancer which is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. (FDA.gov, 2022).
