Field Flash
March 18, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We wish you all a safe and relaxing spring break! For those of you traveling, safe travels! We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, March 28th.
Each year, we provide parents an opportunity to share information about their child(ren), how they learn best, and preferences about peers in their classroom. If you are interested in sharing information, please use this form. You are able to complete this form until April 1st. Thank you for your partnership!
A few reminders:
- Weather: Please be sure your child continues to dress for the weather each day. We instruct students to wear the outdoor gear that their grown-up has sent them to school with that day. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess. As always, label items, please!
- Kiss and Go reminders: Please remember that the Kiss and Go areas are intended for quick drop offs. Adults should remain in the car and students should exit quickly. Please also remember that our parking lot is not available for drop off.
- New Student Registration is open! Please be sure to register your incoming kindergartener as soon as you can.
- Construction: As a reminder, construction will begin after spring break. Please review the information below about this project.
- Health Reminder: If your child tests positive for COVID-19 over spring break, please notify us by email. It's best to email both our nurse jrudd@d64.org and me cgoodman@d64.org. If your child has COVID symptoms upon our return on March 28th, they should stay home and get tested before returning.
Have a wonderful spring break!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal
Congratulations to our VShow Performers!
Because of the VShow tradition, VShow 66 funds purchased our new book vending machine, which has been a lot of fun for students! Students earn tokens to pick out books from the machine. Tokens are earned through book challenges and our CARES tickets. Thank you for making this possible!
IAR schedule - Help your child be ready
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness Test, an assessment for all students in Illinois, will be administered in District 64 from March 28-April 8.
The best preparation for the IAR has been the quality instruction our teachers have provided this school year. However, there are things you can also do to promote your child’s success:
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
Provide your child with words of encouragement. While we don’t want our students to feel anxious about any assessment, we do want them to do their best.
The IAR is an online assessment and students will be using their Chromebooks to complete these tests. Please make sure your child brings his or her Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.
Below is our school’s schedule for test administration:
Tuesday, March 29: ELA Test 1
Wednesday, March 30: ELA Test 2
Thursday, March 31: Math Test 1
Friday, April 1: Math Test 2
Monday, April 4: Math Test 3
Tuesday, April 5: ELA Test 3
If you would like to learn more about the IAR tests, sample tests are available for your review. Thank you for your support in helping your child be prepared for upcoming testing.
Construction updates for Arrival & Dismissal
Beginning March 14th, some of our arrival and dismissal procedures will change in preparation for our construction. While construction is slated to begin during spring break, we are using the week of March 14th to transition to our new routines for arrival and dismissal (as well as recess and classroom locations).
Kindergarteners and first graders will now arrive through the main entrance. In order to alleviate crowding, we'll have our kindergartener and our first graders enter the building on a rolling basis, beginning at 8:35 a.m. when our door supervisors arrive. All kindergarteners and first graders will dismiss through the main entrance too. This applies to both AM and PM kindergarteners.
All other locations for arrival and dismissal remain the same, with a slight adjustment to 3rd grade's line up location. 3rd grade will line up near the basketball courts, right behind 2nd grade but facing their usual entrance door. This is due to fencing that will be on the blacktop.
I've included maps and arrival/dismissal reminders below.
While March-June will create some challenges for us space-wise, we are thrilled to welcome students to full-day kindergarten in the fall. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we make these necessary adjustments this March-June.
Let's Be Idle Free
As the weather gets colder, Field School Green Team & Scouts would like to remind you to not idle (let your car's engine run while parked) during pick up and drop off. Turn the Key and be Idle Free- It's better for your car/gas bill, the students' health, and our environment. Check out the Scout's video for more information.
