Jackrabbits - From the Ground Up
Week of August 29 - September 2, 2022
Greetings from the Office of Principal Miranda
Gearing up for our fifth week of school, if you can believe how quickly our first month together has gone. It's a true blessing and privilege to to be able to serve such great community of learners. We continue to accomplish great things together as a team. Last week our School Improvement Team (SIT) and Attendance Committee met to discuss topics relevant to progressing our school and students.
Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team, lead by school counselor, Mr. Chavez met to discuss systems and practices to help improve student relations. Our PBIS Committee had the opportunity to look at various school expectations that will assist with academic and social emotional successes both in and outside the classroom. Looking at school data will always drive the incentives and practices we initiate on campus.
I had the distinct pleasure in meeting many parents this past Friday during our Coffee with the Principal. On the agenda was information regarding attendance and absences, safety and other good to know housekeeping items such as our systems for arrival and dismissal. Thanks to our parents who were in attendance for their invaluable feedback. A special thank you to Mrs. E. Rios, Parent Liaison and Ms. Fuentes, Communities in Schools (CIS) feeder pattern representative.

Attendance
Free Dress Pass will be given to scholars with perfect attendance from Monday through Fridays beginning this week!!
House Bill 3 keeps us accountable for students' absences. It is important that parents submit a doctor's note or personal note for every day a scholar is out of school. Please email these notes to our Attendance, Specialist to: attendancebennarbuth@sisd.net
Daily attendance and all day attendance is vital to students' academic and social and emotional success. If students are not feeling well health wise, it is imperative they stay home to keep themselves and others around them safe. When students are not ill, they should be in school. The goal at the elementary level is that our students have a daily school attendance rate of 97% or higher. Together we can all make a difference.

Counselor's Corner
Hello Ben Narbuth Parents
**Small Group Counseling **
Many of our students have had experiences and share the same concerns and feelings that other students are feeling and going through that is why a student can benefit from the opportunity to discuss his/her feelings about these concerns by participating in a small group counseling session. A small group is comprised of 4-8 students that generally meet for six to eight sessions. The following groups are likely to be formed to address the need of our students:
Social Skills/Friendships
Coping with Grief and Loss
Anger
Coping with Anxiety/Stress/Worry
Study Skills
The small group sessions will take place on Fridays. If you feel your child will benefit from these small group sessions, please click on the link and complete the form. The school counseling program at Ben Narbuth is designed to support students, teachers, and families.
As the School Counselor for all the Jackrabbits I will be teaching and presenting to your child, counselor character lessons and presentations on topics like kindness, perseverance, college, and career just to name a few. In addition to all those essential and important lessons, I also must present on sensitive topics such abuse, stranger danger, and safe and unsafe touches just to name a few. Keep in mind that all these topics will be presented throughout the school year and all lessons and presentations are all age appropriate.
These topics are all state mandated required lessons through TEA. I am providing the link below so that you can read the TEA state education standards regarding these topics.
