What was the change?
A great cultural movement 14th century Italy was known as the Renaissance era. The movement began in Florence, because the Medici family invested money in Florence to contribute to the development of the city as an artistic society.
Who were the people associated with the change?
The people associated with the Renaissance were Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Gutenberg, Petrarch, and Machiavelli. These men were considered the "ideal man" or "Renaissance man" of this era, because they were skillful in dancing, poetry writing, playing music, and were well educated.
Some Renaissance Men
Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest artist in history. He like to paint pictures that depicted shadows being cast due to objects having light shown on them. He also used linear perspective to create the illusion of depth on a flat surface.
Dante
Dante Alighieri was one of the most well educated writers of all time. His works such as La Vita Nuova (The New Life), and The Divine Comedy have influenced the work of many later poets.
Michelangelo Buonarroti
Michelangelo was one of the most famous artists in history. He made paintings and also sculpted marble statues. An important contribution of his that is still significant today is the Sistine Chapel.
How did the change impact society at the time?
The people of the time were influenced to think less about religious principles, and think more about the possibilities of human achievement. This belief is known as humanism. It also caused artists to use methods that made their paintings look 3-dimensional and realistic.
How is that change evident in today's society?
Today people's art forms reflect the realistic look of Leonardo da Vinci's works. Also, paintings today are based on things that are seen in nature instead of being based only on religion.
