A Message from the Interim Principal
Message from the Principal
Dear Chain Lake Families,
As we complete the final few days of school, I want to thank the opportunity to serve as interim principal while Mrs. Apter was out on maternity leave and sharing your children with me. I have had a wonderful time getting to know you and your amazing children, Chain Lake is a great place to be!
I am reflecting on all the hard work that students, parents, and staff have put into this year. We learned a lot of things this year about our ability to change and be flexible. Change is hard, but we did it together as a team. Thank you for your effort, grit, grace, and partnership.

What can you do to help your child this summer with academics?
Regardless of other activities, the best predictor of summer retention or loss of student learning is whether or not a child reads during the summer. Research clearly shows that the key to stemming summer reading loss is providing children with books that fit — books that match their skill levels and their interests — which is an important first step in encouraging voluntary reading.

MSD Summer Bookmobile
Monroe School District is excited to announce that we will be providing students access to library books for summer reading! Every Thursday a library bookmobile will travel through the Chain Lake community and make frequent stops for students to check out library books. A map of the bookmobile stops and times will be available next week.
Next week the school library will also be open for students to check out books for summer reading. Students can check out up to 5 books to take home to continue independent reading over the summer. These books can be kept at home until school resumes in September or returned throughout the summer to the bookmobile.
Summer Bookmobile Routes
This summer the Monroe School District will be providing a library Bookmobile route for students @ CLE. Every Thursday (July 1-September 2) the bookmobile will make 9 stops through the Chain Lake community to provide library book access to students! Please stop by and check out library books!
A list of stops is provided below and you can also click on the link for an interactive Google map of the stops.
Next week this information will also be available on the District Website.
Summer Reading at Sno-Isle Libraries
As you know, we’re in the final weeks of the school year, which means summer is around the corner. Summer Reading at Sno-Isle Libraries starts Monday, June 21. Kids and teens who read 10 hours will earn a free book. There will also be weekly virtual events, a community scavenger hunt, and lots of book lists and activity ideas online all summer long.
To help, they have created a short video about how Summer Reading works: https://youtu.be/jrVWqWgOFo0

A Note from the Library.......
Have a wonderful summer and I hope everyone has some awesome adventures! It has been an absolute joy this year being able to have the students back in person, even if it was only a hybrid model and that forced the library to be different than years past, but all of the amazing students still acted with joy and gratitude which made my heart big and full!
Happy Reading Cheetahs!
Until next year,
Mrs. Swalwell
Digital Learning
Choice STEM Activity
As we wrap up this very unusual year in Digital Learning, I am including a choice of STEM activities to be completed this week. Students are encouraged to post their activities on our Padlet. Also, if you are looking for some additional STEM activities to do throughout the summer, Daily STEM, is a trusted resource and has many different categories of activities.
Digital Citizenship
Please continue to remind your student to ensure they are practicing good digital citizenship while they are online. Students should be careful about using Google search and ensure that they are following our district policies - searches that could contain questionable content are flagged and sent to individual schools for investigation.
Have a fun and safe summer and....Keep Calm and Code On!

Health Room Screening for Students
Hello Parents!
Please review the attached Illness Guidelines. We are currently following this guidance from the WA Department of Health, Snohomish Health District and the Monroe School District. If your child becomes ill please contact the school regarding your child's illness symptom(s) as soon as possible. We will then review the symptoms with you and determine the pathway for your child to return to school. We are required to follow this very closely.
If children with illness symptoms arrive at school, parents will be contacted to pick their child up. We appreciate your understanding and willingness to work with us to keep children and staff healthy and safe. Thank-you!
Sincerely,
Joy Good RN BSN

CARES
At Chain Lake, each and every one of us is a Cheetah who CARES (Cooperative, Accountable, Respectful, Enthusiastic, Safe)! In school, we talk about what each of these ideas looks like in different settings. As we come back to the building, we know that some of our CARES expectations have changed. We encourage you to use the below as a guide to what it means to follow our Chain Lake expectations in hybrid learning (click the picture to enlarge).
