Social Emotional Learning Tip of the Month
It is often helpful to have morning check-ins with your family. Teenagers often have a difficulty with self-esteem, seeing outside of their "bubble", and communication. Helping teenagers start their day with positive self-talk and healthy routines can help to setup a successful day. Here are some strategies:
1. Teach positive self-talk. Looking into a mirror, say things like, "I am going to have a great day", "I am kind", "I feel good", "I can do this", etc.
2. Minute check-ins: Each person takes one minute to talk while the other person only listens. Switch.
3. Eat breakfast together.
4. Get up early and take a walk together or other physical activity.
5. Hug your family for more than 10 seconds.....there are studies on this!
6. Smile....it is powerful and we often notice when people are or aren't smiling.
