ECHO
A Monthly Resource for Teaching the Faith 6.23
"Connect with other catechists. Ours is never a lone-ranger ministry. There is such a wealth of support in this interdependence. Pray together; share successes and ideas."
Try to meet with your fellow catechists before the school year begins. Summer might be an excellent time to share ideas and collaborate! This edition of ECHO is all about planning for the year ahead and making the most of the summer programming at your parish.

Shaped by the Source and Summit
1. Invite the pastor to celebrate a teaching Mass for parents and kids
2. Create a word wall with those words associated with the Eucharist. Practice them frequently!
3. Take time with each part of the Mass doing a "deep dive" at an age appropriate level for your kids.
4. Encourage providing a resource on the Mass for kids. Many publishers have Mass books that can be bought in bulk.
5. Create a library of stories about the Eucharist and the Mass. Share them regularly and invite conversation around them!
6. Work Adoration into class time.
7. Help the participants to familiarize themselves with the special areas in the church, such as the tabernacle. Teach reverence around the tabernacle.
8. Introduce participants to Eucharistic saints.
9. Practice the prayers of the Mass frequently.
10. Help the students to grow in friendship with Jesus so that when they participate in the Mass, they are spending time with a beloved friend.
A few months ago, we highlighted a resource called Seven Clues. Loyola Press has released some activity sheets to accompany this fun book that helps kids to think about about the Mass using critical thinking and puzzle solving!

RESOURCE REVIEW
1. Illustrations are engaging and multicultural
2. It is not just a missal. It also provides a tour of the church, a discussion of symbols, an overview of the seven sacraments, an outline for the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Catholic prayers, and an overview of the Liturgical year.
3. It offers this downloadable parent guide that you can access in the PDF below. The Parent Guide offers some explanations so that they can provide the WHY behind what we do and better serve their kids as the Primary Catechist of the faith!
