Dress for the Weather
While there are certainly instances where it’s unsafe to play outside, there are many opportunities to have fun on the playground on cold winter days. When going outside (properly dressed for the weather) our mood can be elevated with natural light, stress levels can be reduced and our mind gets a break from the classroom setting. Students will continue going out for recess when the weather is appropriate so please make sure that your child wears the a jacket to school.
Arrival/Dismissal
Now that it is getting colder outside and for student safety, no students should be outside on the school grounds before 7:30AM (M,T,TH,F) 8:30AM (W) as no one is available to let them in until the designated time.
Please make sure your child gets picked up on time during dismissal. As a reminder, teachers will wait an extra 5 minutes (2:55PM) outside by their designated door. Students who are not picked up by then will be taken to the main office, Door #14.

Absences
If you prefer, you can also email the absence to our secretary, Patty at: pcalvino@sd104.us
- Cold & Flu season is in full swing! We are seeing an increase in RSV, influenza, and Covid-19. Please keep sick students at home and encourage frequent handwashing to protect others.
- Students should stay home until they are well enough to participate and are fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. Once your student starts improving, please test for Covid and send back to school with a negative result ASAP!
- Washing your hands is easy, and it's the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs.
- Covid home test kits will continue to be given to students sent home with covid symptoms.
- “Once a week, take a peek” We have noticed an increase in lice cases; please check your child’s hair weekly to prevent an outbreak in your home.
- Take time to create holiday magic in your home and make memories with your loved ones! Here’s to a very healthy new year!
Happy holidays from Nurse Tina & Nurse Anita
Head lice is going around our school!
Please see the following flyers with more information on how to
prevent it from getting on your child.

5 Steps to Calm Tantrums without Threats, Punishments, or Power Struggles.
5 Steps to Peacefully Calm Tantrums
1. Validate Feelings: validation is key in calming a tantruming child who simply wants to feel understood.
3. Meet the Need: Meeting the child's need is not a reward for "bad behavior." Behavior is a form of communication ; children simply speaks a foreign language. In order to effectively calm a tantruming child, you have to get to the root by meeting the underlying need- not the desire- but the root need ( there are 5 Basic Needs according to Dr. William Glasser)
4. Address Behavior: Did you know your child's brain cannot learn a lesson in a state of dysregulation. Therefore, connecting with your child and allowing them space to calm down before addressing negative behavior is crucial if you want to minimize tantrums in the long run and see them learn lessons.
5. Correct Behavior: Stopping behavior and correcting behavior are different. Threats, punishments, and even most consequences only stop behavior- they don't correct it. In order for children to build internal motivation to do what is right/good, they must be taught positive behaviors and skills
