H.B. 293 (Rep Last) | Education Funding Amendments
This bill will better fund districts whose property tax yields are below the state average. Davis, Alpine, Iron, Weber, Ogden, (and others)
It sets property tax rate caps to .0025 for all districts. (Currently 11 districts have a cap at .0018 and 30 districts have a cap at .0025.)
It will fund 5 million additional dollars for transportation for districts.
It will fund $500,000 for NESS funding (Necessarily Existent Small School Fund)
PTA Position: Support (because it maintains the WPU which aligns with PTA Resolution 2010-2)
H.B. 264 (Rep Eliason) | Elementary School Counselor Program
- This bill would get MORE COUNSELORS in our ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
- It also provides training for educators on trauma informed practices.
- PTA Position: Support (for more info read PTA Resolution EDU 2017-2)
Get Involved
The priority is to email or call your representative and tell them how important school counselors in our elementary schools are to you and your children. Last year a bill was passed that would have added counselors in the elementary schools but it was funded. Let your representative know that we want HB 264 passed and funded! Just YOUR email/phone call will make a huge difference!! Go to https://le.utah.gov and enter your address to find information about your state senator & representative.
Order Yearbooks
You can now order and pay for your student's yearbook online from Lifetouch. This is the last month to get yearbooks at $12. The price will go up to $14 in March.
Go to: ybpay.lifetouch.com
Yearbook Code: 12862618
If you prefer to not order online but still want a yearbook, order forms have been sent home or are available in the office. Please make checks out to: Lakeview Elementary PTA.

Utah PTA Day at the Capitol and Leadership Convention
One of the main purposes of PTA is to advocate for education in Utah. To do this, we all need to learn the issues and communicate with our legislators. Come do both at Utah PTA Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the state capitol. We will learn about PTA's legislative priorities, hear from the Governor, and have lunch with our state senators and representatives! It's a fun way to get involved in politics and help your children in the process! Registration will be available after the holidays at www.utahpta.org. It's only $15 and includes lunch. Secondary students (i.e. grades 7-12) are also welcome and will have their own student track. It's a fantastic experience!
Utah PTA offers a Leadership Convention in May to prepare PTA members and board leaders to better serve at their schools and in our community. All PTA members are welcome and incoming PTA leadership is highly encouraged to attend. Utah PTA Convention will be May 23-24, 2018 at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo. Save the date!
