Teacher In-Service - Feb. 10th - Teachers Day to Collaborate and Plan for the Future!
Each member of our Building Leadership Team played a significant role in planning and leading our recent in-service day, and it was magnificent! We started with Mrs. Nowak and Mrs. Manier leading us in a warm up activity called “Zoom”, where we had to communicate with descriptive words, where people had to collaborate and leaders needed to take charge. Following Zoom, Mrs. Riechers and Ms. Danielson walked us through the goals of our strategic plan and our elementary School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mrs. Matherne and Mrs. Kyes helped staff to dig into their grade level ELA data which then lead to grade level action planning and discussions about next steps for our entire school. Great conversations and direction came from this work. Right before lunch Mrs. Kent and Mrs. Mathison helped with the December Employee Engagement survey result roll out. Following lunch we spent the afternoon discussing how we support students with challenging behaviors, how those behaviors impact the whole school, legal considerations, and how we can better prepare ourselves for the social emotional needs of today’s students.
Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Lien led conversations and action planning around behavioral challenges and needed supports. Ms. Shakal and Ms. Guy led our closing activity, where we played "Would you rather", a fun movement game where each staff member had to take a stand by moving from one side of the room to the other based on different questions. In the end we made huge steps toward finalizing our School Improvement Plan. This SIP will be our road map for the next 5 years.

Hornet Health Tip: Head Lice
Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness nor do head lice transmit disease.
Remember you do not need to treat for Head Lice if you do not find anything. Also, over using medicated shampoo is not good for the scalp. Please follow the directions on the label. Most recommend only using once and sometimes repeating again in 7 days. Do not use more than recommended.
Head lice pass from person to person by direct head-to-head contact or less commonly by sharing hats, brushes, scarves, combs, etc. that have been used by a person with head lice.
If someone in your family is found to have head lice or nits, everyone in the family and close contacts should be checked for signs of head lice. A special medicated shampoo or hair rinse must be used to kill head lice. Follow the directions carefully for the medicated shampoo or hair rinse. Regular shampoo will NOT kill head lice.
Clothing, bed linens, pillows, stuffed toys, etc. used by anyone with head lice must be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. Items that can’t be washed can be sealed in a plastic bag for 14 days or longer, dry cleaned, or dried in a hot dryer for 30 minutes. Car upholstery, carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture and mattresses must be vacuumed.
If you have any questions about head lice, please contact Nurse Jessica, RN, School Nurse, (715) 289-3795, extension 1503 or by email hagerj@cadott.k12.wi.us

Tobacco Awareness Events
Cadott Elementary School was fortunate to receive a $1000 grant from Marshfield Clinic to put towards Tobacco prevention. With that money the Elementary school was able to put on a Tobacco Prevention Lyceum done by Three Screens’ production. In preparation for Tobacco Free Kids week students throughout the elementary school worked on coloring projects and posters to show how staying healthy was important. Thirteen winners were chosen for creating the most unique, colorful, creative posters. These posters will be made into a calendar for next school year. Watch for sales of these as this will be a fundraiser for future Healthy Events to be put on at Cadott Schools.
The Three Screens’ production was done on February 13th and was a huge success. With the gym filled with three enormous movie screens the children watched a presentation that related to them, with music, videos and showed them examples of how they can help others, stop bullying, stay tobacco, alcohol and drug free. In talking with a few students after the production they shared how they liked the music and videos, but they also took home an important message. One student said that she wanted to make friends with new people and make sure that students in her class were not being bullied.
Students also each received a bracelet that has a saying “Healthy Choices Happy Life” so that they are reminded that the choices they make are important. Each classroom also participated in a drawing for one classmate to win a backpack that has the same message “Healthy Choices Happy Life”
A huge thank you to all that helped to coordinate these events, all of the children for their wonderful time and energy into the artwork and to Marshfield Clinic for their generous donation that made all of this possible.
