CPA Tiger Talk

March 7-11, 2022

Upcoming Non-School Days

There is no school for students in PreK-Grade 4 on Thursday March 10, due to conferences. All other students in grades 5-12 should report to CPA as normal. There is no school on Friday March 11 for any students or staff.

Words of Wisdom

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened."

~Helen Keller

In good times, it's simple to put on a smile and go quietly about our days with ease. We may have no real motivation to search for ways to improve ourselves and our lives. It's tempting to stay put instead of reaching for our very best. Then life throws us a challenge. That's never fun. But when we reflect back over our lives, we often notice that times of strife strengthen us and often propel our lives onto a better trajectory. There will be challenges. No doubt. Let those challenges strengthen you in ways that make you a wiser person and better role model.

5B Reads About and Reflects on HOPE

5B did a read-aloud of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane during Ethics. Then they created some artwork about hope in the story. ❤️

These two quotes about hope really resonated with the students:

"You must be filled with expectancy. You must be awash in hope. You must wonder who will love you, whom you will love next.”

"Open your heart. Someone will come. Someone will come for you. But first you must open your heart.“

Hope is the Ethical Principle for March, and March is also CPA Loves to Read Month. What a great combination!

CPA Loves to Read Month: Book Recommendation

Ms. Ericson, High School Director, recommends the book Pet by Akwaeke Emezi.

She loves this book because the characters are strong and independent and aren't afraid to confront their problems and work to solve them. It's a fantasy which usually isn't her favorite genre, but the characters were so authentic and loveable that it made her love the whole book.

We hope you like it as much as she does!

Get ready for the CPA Book Fair!

CPA will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair for students in the elementary library the week of March 14-18. Students will have an opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their classes. Thanks for helping us promote literacy at CPA!

Badminton Registration

Badminton season starts this week! The first day of practice for the CPA badminton team is Monday March 7. Interested athletes must complete the registration process before they are allowed to practice. Students can register by getting forms from the High School Office or visiting the CPA Athletics Website and following all needed steps. Students with questions should contact Kenan Moore, CPA's Athletic Director.

Elementary Spring Conferences

Spring conferences for students in PreK-4 are this week on Tuesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 10. Elementary conferences will be held virtually on Zoom. Please use the link sent to you via email by your child's teacher to attend your conferences. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher. We look forward to checking in with you about how the school year is going for your child and your family!

High School Spring Conferences

Spring Conferences for students in grades 9-12 will be held on Tuesday, March 15th (In-Person) and Thursday, March 17th (Virtual) from 4-7pm.

Our goal is to have 100% parent participation in conferences. A parent’s involvement in their child’s education results in positive achievement for the child. We know how busy family schedules become and we want to ensure that we do not miss out on this important opportunity to come together to discuss your child’s achievement.

To attain our goal of 100% parent participation, we want to make sure that you are provided with the necessary communication and/or resources to allow for your attendance on one of the two conference nights.

Please complete this form as soon as possible: HS Spring Conference Sign-Up

Thank you! We look forward to connecting with you at High School Spring Conferences.

Light up the Night

Light Up the Night is CPA's annual fundraiser. This year, the event will include an online auction from March 16-March 26, as well as a live virtual gathering on March 26 over Zoom. Visit biddingowl.com/CPA2022 page to join in on the fun!

Help Needed!

CPA is currently preparing for our annual fundraiser, Light Up the Night, and we could use your help!

Do you have a connection to a local business that would be willing to donate an item to our online auction? Are you interested in donating a gift basket or other item for the online auction? Maybe you are even interested in getting involved with the committee that is planning the event! If any of these are true for you, please contact Sadie Fischer at sadief@cpapk12.org or 651-280-4564.

All donations for the online auction must be received by Monday March 14. Your support is greatly appreciated!

CPA is currently accepting enrollment applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Currently enrolled students do not need to reapply, but you do need to turn in your Intent to Return Form so we save your seat.

Free at-home COVID tests

CPA families: have you heard there is a new government program that will mail 4 free COVID tests to every household? In order to receive your 4 free COVID tests, you must order them!

Please visit covidtests.gov to order your tests--it's very easy, and it only takes a minute.

The tests are entirely free, and there is no shipping cost. It takes about 7-12 days before the tests will be shipped, so order now before you need them!

Free KN95 Masks from Ramsey County

Wearing a high-quality mask helps limit the spread of COVID-19, including variants like Omicron.

Ramsey County's A Mask for Everyone program is an initiative to ensure that individuals and families in Ramsey County have access to free masks to reduce transmission of COVID-19, accurate information about the importance of wearing a mask, and instructions on proper use of masks.

Together, we want to help protect our residents and keep our communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Click here to request free adult or youth KN95 masks (for those under 7 years old). You can request up to 5 per person, limit 20 per household.

Every Meal Program Beginning Later This Year

We are excited to announce that CPA will be starting a partnership with Every Meal. Through this program, CPA families can register each enrolled child to receive a bag of food to take home each week. This program is entirely free and is open to anyone who is interested. We expect this program to be up and running later this winter.

There are 5 types of food bags available to suit your dietary preferences. On the registration form, you can see the kinds of food each bag contains and choose your preference.

Register here! We apologize that the link did not work in the previous Tiger Talk--it will work now. If you have any questions, please contact Chelle York (651-280-4509) or Sadie Fischer (651-280-4564).
