KCS Parent Communication-Learning Plan
The desire of Kingsport City Schools during the closure associated with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is to continue to provide opportunities to maintain and reinforce learning for all students. We will use various methods to accomplish this as described below. What we are asking of parents is to use these materials as an opportunity to assist your child/children with further learning. Parents, you will notice that there are adequate activities to allow for a potential extended closure, if necessary. We at Kingsport City Schools have the mindset that we are facilitating ongoing learning of essential information and are committed to providing quality and timely feedback to our students.
For PreK Students
The Early Childhood program will communicate with parents regarding activities for children’s learning during closure.
For K - 5th Grade Students
Printed handouts in packets are made for each student. Included is a checklist and directions for completing activities.
There is a list of supplemental activities available online inside the packet, as well.
Teachers will continue to communicate with families through usual channels and may contact you via technology as well. Some common ways teachers use to communicate are email, Class Dojo, or Remind.
You may pick up packets between 9:00am and 3:00pm at your schools Thursday and Friday (March 19th and 20th).
Students who currently receive special education, EL, or 504 services will continue to be provided additional support.

Learning Blade Site for Students! Science Site recommended by KCS STREAM Specialist:
Learning Blade has a site where parents can download Parent/Student Activities. Many of our students have used Learning Blade in the STEM classes, but they don’t need an account to get access to the activities. They don’t have to print anything either. Here is the link:

This goes perfect with the 6th Grade ecology unit because we discussed how energy moves through a food chain and talked about the bald eagle nearly being extinct in the past because off DDT contamination in the fish the eagles ate and how the chemical was banned due to harming the environment.
Also, there are games on "Legends of Learning." They can play a "teacher play list" or choose freeplay. It has Science and Math.
