CST's the place to be!
The CST 1 Students study Computer Hardware, Operating Systems Software, and Introduction to Networking. This qualifies students to work as an entry level Information Technology Support technician in many businesses These students are introduced to python programming, databases, basic electronics and cyber security. Right now the CST 1 students are using small single board computers to develop electronic projects such as motion detection lights and bluetooth proximity sensors.
The CST 2 (second year) Students study Networking in detail and Cyber Security one of the fastest growing fields in our Industry. CST 2 students are qualified to work as an entry level Network Support technician as well as an Information Technology Support technician. Right now students are learning how to scan a network to identify systems that are providing services and how to determine if those services may be vulnerable to an external attack. These students will then develop a report indicating the services found on the network and provide recommendations for upgrades to the software to better secure the systems.
They do it All in ENG:
Are you a maker? Would you like to plan and create things using 3-D design software that will be made in the real world? From simple products like bottle openers to more complicated things, such as machine parts or houses, the engineering & architecture students prepare for these highly demanding fields by training on the latest industry Computer Aided Design programs, Laser cutters, and 3-D printers.
This program combines Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math using problem solving skills, graphic languages, and engineering principles that are basic to these career fields.
Currently, the Architectural (second-year) students are fully engaged in learning how to create a 3-D residential structure in AutoDesk Revit. Revit is widely used computer software by architectural firms everywhere to design structures and manage projects. The Mechanical students, also second-year students, are involved in creating drawings for mechanical devices using another 3-D Computer Aided Design software (SolidWorks) which is used by many manufacturing companies in Vermont.
Our first-year students are on their way to becoming certified as SolidWorks associates (entry level). They are just starting culminating projects where they need to create a real world object using the 3-D software skills they have acquired this semester. In addition, about ten of our students are preparing to enroll in Dual Enrollment courses where they will receive Vermont Technical College credit for the work they are doing within our class.
Creativity and accuracy are the key to becoming either an engineer or architect and there are plenty of opportunities for our students to practice both traits as they learn technical, math, and science skills that will enhance their future college and career experiences.
