Online AIG Schedule
All AIG scholars should accept their course invite(s) this Friday. AIG instruction will begin on Monday, September 21st with some getting-to-know you activities. Live instruction and regular unit coursework will begin the following week. When the GCS calendar disallows lessons on your child's regular AIG day of the week, prerecorded lessons will be provided in order for learning to continue. Courses are designed to be self-paced. Each week, students are expected to attend live instruction for 30 minutes at the assigned time and will be provided an additional 30 minutes for follow-up independent work time. AIG teachers will offer outside office hours for questions as well. All AIG assignments are due on Sunday of each week for all grade levels and subjects. Please encourage students to take their time, enjoy the learning and remember that they don't have to do it all at once. We are excited to meet you in class on Microsoft Teams!

Hero Within
From the original Superman to real-life everyday heroes, this unit takes an in-depth look at the concept of heroism through multiple genres--including biography, graphic novel, short story, and poetry. Who is your hero?
Math Quest
For first quarter in 4th grade Math AG, we will participate in Math Quest. The Math Quest unit investigates the concept of problem solving in a virtual race to the treasure chest. Problem solving can take on many forms, including words, pictures, charts, and numbers. We will use six strategies for solving problems: draw a picture, guess and check, act-it-out, work backwards, look for a pattern, and make a table or chart. More than one strategy can be used to solve a given problem, but one specific strategy will be the focus of each week.
5th Grade
All AIG-served 5th graders should logon to Canvas to access their learning in the following courses beginning Friday, September 18th.

Wherefore Art Thou?
Here are some of the essential questions we will explore throughout this semester-long unit:
How can research help me to understand how the Arts are important and valued in the lives of individuals?
What influences creative expression?
How is feeling and mood conveyed musically? Visually? Through movement?
How does a piece of art warrant merit?
What is beauty and who decides?
What does the lack of arts exposure take away from a person’s life?
What is my responsibility in improving access to the arts in my community?
Why is the value of The Arts threatened during hard economic times?
How could an individual’s emotions and well-being be affected by a lack of access to The Arts?
How do the arts shape, as well as reflect, a culture?
What can artworks tell us about a culture or society?
How do artists from different eras explore and express similar themes in their work?
This unit will culminate with a service project to promote/save the arts in our community. Please send your ideas and resources our way!
Beyond Base Ten
Do you ever wonder how prehistoric humans counted? This quarter we will look at the evolution of numbers! Students will investigate number patterns in number systems such as Base Ten, Binary, Roman Numerals, Babylonian, Mayan Numbers, and Xmania.
