Medication/Nurse
Dispensing Medications
The District strongly recommends that all medication be administered to students under the supervision of the nurse. If you must take any prescription or over-the-counter medication during school hours and/or at school-related events, State Law requires the following:
1. A written request from your health care provider
2. A written request from your parent/guardian
3. Medication in a pharmacy- labeled container for prescription medications and original manufacturer’s container for over-the counter medications
4. Medication delivered to the nurse by an adult, unless required documentation for Independent Use and Carry of Medication is on file and approved by the nurse
*You may not store medication in your locker nor carry and/or take medication in school or at school-sponsored events unless the required documentation is submitted to the Health Office. This includes prescription and over-the counter medication, dietary pills, supplements and vitamins. If you carry or use unauthorized medication or share medication with other students, you will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the District’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy, including suspension from school and referral to the CAP program.
Immunizations Requirement
June 24, 2019
Dear Webster CSD Parents/Guardians,
On June 13, 2019, the New York State Legislature amended the state’s laws governing immunizations for school children. Effective immediately, there is no longer a religious exemption to the requirement that children be vaccinated against measles and other diseases to attend pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in a public, private, or parochial setting or to be enrolled in daycare.
Parents and guardians of all children who do not have their required immunizations are encouraged to receive the first dose as soon as possible. If a student lacks the required immunizations and is not medically exempt from immunization, the new law requires that the student be excluded from school until the required immunizations are initiated. The Center for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices created the Recommended Immunization Schedules by which schools are to evaluate whether a student has age appropriate appointments scheduled. The schedule is located at https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html.
In order for students who are currently on a non-medical exemption to access any summer programming, the deadline for affected students to receive the first age appropriate dose in each required immunization series is June 28, 2019. Parents and guardians of such students must also provide proof by July 14, 2019, that appointments have been made for all required follow-up doses. Students will be excluded from summer programming without the required certificate of immunization/appointments by these due dates.
Students with non-medical exemptions who are not participating in school programming or daycare during the summer must receive the first age appropriate dose in each immunization series by the close of school on September 18, 2019. In addition, by the close of school on October 2, 2019, parents and guardians must provide proof of appointments scheduled for all required follow-up doses in accordance with the above CDC schedule. Students will be excluded from school without the required certificate of immunization/appointments by these due dates.
Parents and guardians should consult with their child’s primary healthcare provider to determine which immunizations are needed based on their age and grade level. Immunizations may be scheduled with the child’s primary healthcare provider or at the Monroe County Department of Public Health. Information regarding the Monroe County immunization program is available at https://www2.monroecounty.gov/health-nursing-immunization.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Carmen Gumina
Superintendent

Student Expectations for 2019-20 School Year
Cell Phones
All cellular telephones are not allowed during the school day between the hours of 8:45 am and 3:15 pm. They should remain off and in your locker. Text messaging is strictly prohibited during school hours. Phones in the Offices are available for any emergency communication. Progression of consequences: 1) Warning 2) Discipline Referral 3) Parent picks up the phone from the House Office
Drinks in the Building
Students may bring water into the building in a sealed container (i.e. screw top cap water bottle or other plastic type water bottle). If they are in a cup with a plastic top they will be asked to empty them before going to class or dispose of them. NO ‘Coffee House’ or ‘Fast Food’ Beverages are allowed into School.
BACKPACKS
Students may carry a small nylon satchel (string backpack) or backpack purse during the school day. Large backpacks, book bags or oversized bag purses must be left in student lockers. The use of large backpacks also creates a safety issue in our classrooms with space. If misused, a student can lose this privilege.
Dress Code
All parents are expected to recognize that the education of their child is a joint responsibility of the parents and the school community. All students are expected to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress for school and school functions in a manner that is in line with the Principles of the Webster school community regarding respect for self and others. Teachers and all other district personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress and help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance in the school setting.
The purpose of the student dress code is to reinforce the district’s mission of preparing all students to be life-long learners and help prepare them for their post-graduation endeavors. Student attire should be a reflection of an atmosphere of mutual respect supported by the district and should not be a distraction to the learning environment. As such, all students are expected to follow the guidelines below:
Acceptable
•All underwear that is completely covered by the outermost garment at all times. This includes bra straps and boxer shorts.
•Shirts and tops that have straps that are at least 2 inches wide.
•Necklines that cover cleavage, and do not expose any undergarments.
•Dresses, skirts, and shorts that extend to at least the mid-thigh or the tips of a student’s fingers when arms are extended at the sides.
Not Acceptable
•Clothing that promotes, displays, endorses, and/or encourages the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and/or illegal or violent activities.
•Clothing that contains messages that are vulgar, obscene, libelous, sexually explicit, potentially disruptive, or that denigrate others because of race, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability.
•The wearing of hats will be left up to the discretion of building administrators. Hats will be allowed for religious requirements and/or for medical conditions with proper documentation.
•Athletic uniforms that are not consistent with the school dress code should not be worn during the school day.
•Clothing that is see-through, backless, or leaves a student’s mid-section exposed.
Safety
•Items that could be considered weapons such as heavy chains or “studs” are prohibited.
•Footwear is expected at all times. Certain classes require a particular type of shoes- for example sneakers for PE and closed-toed shoes for labs, Art, Tech. etc. Bedroom shoes are not appropriate school attire.
•Hoods and any garment that covers the face or side of the face are not acceptable. Exceptions will be made for religious dress requirements and/or for medical conditions with proper documentation.
Building Administration has final discretion.
Students who violate the Student Dress Code of their building shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item and, if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item.
Following the dress code is not optional.
