Math, Science, and Social Studies
Math-Fractions
Students have been doing a wonderful job in our fraction unit! This week we will use benchmark fractions to compare fractions on a number line. We will also compare and order fractions.
Our cumulative multiplication accuracy checks on all facts 1-12 are going great! Both classes only have 4 more students to complete the final accuracy check. I am seeing great progress each week.
For those students who are close, but haven't passed yet:
*A fun website your child can use at home to help prepare for the cumulative test is www.mulitplication.com. Students use this site multiple times throughout the week to work on fact families that are most problematic for them. This site has tons of fun games that the students enjoy.
Math-Geometry
This week in geometry we will work on drawing and identifying points, lines, line segments, rays, and 4 different types of angles.
Social Studies- We will continue our read aloud The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We will continue to focus on theme and main idea as we begin studying Greek Mythology. We will be previewing Greek Mythology this week and will begin by reading the legend of King Midas. We will look at ways Greek Mythology has influenced our culture, and we will focus our study on allusions (Pandora's Box, Herculean task, Odyssey, etc). Students will also continue practicing using evidence to support their answers and focusing on character traits.
Writing--We have drafted our introductions and body paragraphs to our opinion essays. This week we will write conclusions, revise and edit, and begin typing our final copies.
