A Note from the Principal
"Joe Pesci taking it down the lane for a lay up," were one of the many funny and entertaining comments that were heard at our Harlem Wizards vs Seylar Stars basketball game last month. It was wonderful to see so many parents, students, and community members laughing and having a good time. Below is a highlight video of the basketball game.
I would also like to say "thank you" to our Home and School Officers for scheduling and organizing this event. Not only did raise money for our new playground equipment, but it brought our community together for fun family event.
We are already scheduling next year's rematch!

- $250 - Seylar Families in Need
- $300 - Gentle Family (Pennridge High School staff member)
- $175 - Bucks County Autism Support Coalition

5th Grade Book Trailers from Mrs. Mulloy's Library
Book Trailers are a great media for sharing books and book talks, and our 5th Graders made their own. These are a few of the favorite books in our Seylar library that 5th graders in Mrs. Groff's classroom created.
Garden Club Refreshens Up Our School Grounds
Every fall and spring, students in fourth and fifth grade have the opportunity to participate in our Garden Club. Our parent coordinator, Mrs. Melissa Nichols, along with a many parent volunteers donate their time to organize and supervise the students in the club (while getting their hands dirty).

Move-Up Day
In an effort to reduce student anxiety over classroom assignments for the new school year, our school will have a "Move Up Day" activity. On June 17, students will have an opportunity to move up to next year’s grade level to meet a teacher on that team. During this hour visit, teachers will do an activity with the children to begin developing a "classroom" identity and discuss exciting plans and projects for the new school year. This activity is not to be confused with your child’s teacher assignment that is communicated in August.

From the Nurse's Office
- This is the time of the year when you need to start checking your child’s skin and hair routinely for ticks, especially if he/she has been in the woods.
- If a tick has attached itself to your child, remove the tick carefully with a pair of tweezers. If any mouth parts are left in the skin, you will need to contact your family physician.
- Ticks can cause Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is transmitted common wood tick and causes a systemic, febrile illness. It is seen more commonly in the southern and western states.
- Lyme disease is more common to our area and is caused by the deer tick. Symptoms generally include a rash that may be accompanied by fever, fatigue, headache, and a stiff neck.
- Recurrent arthritis in the large joints occurs in the later stages of the disease and may eventually involve the central nervous system and the heart. Lyme disease can be diagnosed by a blood test and is treated with a course of antibiotics.
- Dentals and physicals are due by the end of the school year- please send them in ASAP!
