Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Dr. Tucker's vision prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, and this spring the BOE restructured some positions to reflect it. From this a Chief Equity Officer was created, and Dr. Andrea Dixon-Seahorn is in that role. This summer she met with every leader in the district as she started to figure out the baseline for LPS. Last week she met with some LA staff to discuss the following article, and she plans to meet with a small group of LA staff next semester (if you're interested in meeting with that group, let me know). Check out the article linked if you have time!

I believe this is a topic near and dear to all who work at Liberty Academy. To support her work, I will try to share info in this forum. If you come across things that would enlighten or challenge our staff, please share, too!

Justin, Debi, and I are the designated COVID team at LA. We will also loop our nurse in, too. We have a dedicated phone line for parents to report positive tests, quarantines, etc. IF you become a close contact (from outside of school) or have a positive test, please notify me as soon as possible.

Please, don't freak out when kids and staff test positive. It's going to happen. And on the flip side, we have to realize that colds, allergies, and everything else that once seemed normal has the same symptoms of Covid. Art will assume the advisory of the first teacher who goes out for two weeks. We also have the ability to bring Paul and Jodi in, if needed.

We just need to do our best to wear the masks, social distance, clean up, and this will help us stay in school longer! We've got this!

How to Support Liberty Academy

1. Bring in something for Lisa to resale in the month of September! Lisa sent an email with HOT SELLERS but don't be afraid to bring something or ask her about a particular item you would be willing to donate! ALL proceeds go to Liberty Academy! This will be a great way to grab something off of Marketplace or similar!

2. SHARE, SHARE, SHARE our Amazon Wish List!! You can ADD to our wish list (tell Debi what you want) or just share it via social media for others who may be willing to help out Liberty Academy! It helps to include a blurb about our school! https://a.co/6CiwXlM Or, just share it directly from our Twitter or Facebook pages.

Support the Liberty Education Foundation!

As an employee of Liberty Public Schools, you make a daily investment in the lives of our students. (That is more apparent now than ever before – THANK YOU!) Your support, combined with nearly 500 staff donors, totaled $30,000 last year. That is just incredible!

Payroll deductions do not carry over year to year, so I hope you will consider renewing your support by signing up for the 2020-2021 Staff Campaign today. (It only takes 60 seconds!) We have another fun donor exclusive t-shirt this year, lanyards for the first 200 to sign up and of course a Sheridan’s Frozen Custard party for the school with the largest increase in participation!

As you know, over the past few years we have intentionally expanded our programs to further our impact – and you have been an incredible partner in this work! We are proud of the unique learning opportunities our new initiatives are providing. This past spring, we were also able to pay off meal debt for nearly 500 students who qualify for free/reduced meals through our Liberty Cares Fund.

No doubt this year will present challenges, but we are inspired by you and all that you do for our students! That is why we have created the Return to Learn Grant – a mini grant to support you as you prepare for the new challenge of physical distancing and to provide additional resources for virtual learning.

Thank you again for supporting our mission in 2019-2020. Please consider partnering with us again this year by renewing your gift today!
