February News
Husky Families
January sure did go by fast! We are proud of the work of our staff and students alike. I recently heard a quote by Nelson Mandela in which he said, "I don't lose. I either win or learn." I believe that is an incredible way to approach education. We want students to "win" often, and they will. When they aren't winning we should instill the midset in them that in those times they aren't losing but learning. With that sort of thinking we are all winning all the time. Encourage your student to win or learn.
100th Day of School
Robotics
Good luck to the Hailmann Robotics Team as they compete February 4th. They have been working really hard.

Weather Information
Now that it is consistently cold out, please send your child to school in their winter coat along with a hat and gloves. If you are in need of any of these items, please reach out to your child's teacher as we have extras to give away. We will go outside daily as long as the wind chill is above 15 degrees.
Also, when there is a two hour delay, the doors open at 10:30 a.m. There is no breakfast, so students go directly to their classrooms. There is not supervision for students prior to 10:30 a.m.

A Note about Testing
State testing "season" is right around the corner. The tests will impact our 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students. We are doing our very best to prepare every student so that they feel comfortable and confident in taking the test(s).
WIDA
Our English Language Learners are in the midst of WIDA right now and I know they are doing a wonderful job!
IREAD-3 (3/6 - 3/17)
2nd grade students will take IREAD-3 again this year. This assessment is designed to assess basic reading skills and will give us valuable information about what our students know and what they need. If your current 3rd grade student passed last year in second grade (50% of our kiddos passed!) then they will not have to take the test again.
All third grade students that have not previously passed IREAD-3 will take the test this year.
ILEARN (4/17 - 5/12)
All of our 3rd and 4th grade students will take ILEARN. It will assess their skills in reading, writing, math and science (for 4th graders only).
As the testing dates get closer, we will send more specific information to families.
Help Wanted
There are currently two openings at Hailmann. We have a 3rd/4th grade classroom assistant position as well as a lunch assistant position. If you are interested in either one, please apply online HERE and then let us know you applied. Hailmann is a great place to work!
