Central Mt. Middle School
Keystone Central School District
Notes From the Principal
Our school year is off to an exciting start. We have been working to support students in getting adjusted into their schedules. Our teachers are working hard to develop positive relationships with their students.
We were delighted with the turn out at our Open House. We had well over 300 families join us. If you were unable to attend, please connect with our teachers using the Bloomz app, or you can find all staff members email addresses on our CMMS website.
From our Fundraiser Committee:
We have 1 week to go in our school-wide fall fundraiser here at CMMS. All orders are due Tuesday, October 12th. Please turn in paper order forms and money to your child's homeroom teacher. The fundraiser items will arrive Tuesday, December 6th and will be available for pick up after school hours. Stay tuned for more specific information about pickup closer to the date!
Currently, we are 23% of the way to our school-wide goal with just online orders. Let's see if we can exceed this!!! Keep selling!

Halloween Safety Tips
Plan a Route: We know that children have a keen sense for curiosity and adventure. Plan your route together, in a familiar neighborhood, and identify places they are allowed and are not allowed to go. You could even make a map they could bring with them as they trick or treat.
Choose Safe Costumes: Trick or treating often occurs in the evening as night begins to settle. Choosing costumes that are light colors and that allow the face to be clearly seen will keep your child safe. Choosing a costume that allows them to move freely may avoid tripping or falling.
Check Candy: Remind children that some candies may be a choking hazard or trigger an allergy. Encourage them to wait until they are home or until a trusted adult checks the candy before they consume anything.
Safety in Numbers: Families may have more fun when they travel with friends. If your children are old enough, encourage them to travel in groups rather than alone.
- Be Visible: Reflector stickers, flashlights, glow sticks, and glow jewelry help your child to be seen at night! Let the kids pick their glow items or carry the flashlights to make the evening even more fun!

Counseling Connection
CMMS School Counseling
October is National Dropout Prevention Month. The reasons that students drop out of school are complex and multilayered.
According to the National Drop Out Prevention Center School attendance, positive relationships within the school, opportunities for family engagement, and access to extracurricular activities have a significant and positive impact on overall student success.
Let’s work together to build a foundation for students to reach their full potential, even when there are many obstacles to success. If you are struggling to get your student connected to school, please reach out to your school counselor today!
During middle school, students experience changes, such as transitioning into adolescence, balancing multiple classes/assignments, dealing with peer pressure, developing new friendships, caring about what others think/fitting in and/or personal situations. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may contact one of our counselors with any questions or concerns they may have regarding their student's academic, career, behavior and/or socioemotional well-being.
A counselor is someone to talk to, who will listen without judgment. A school counselor can assist in short-term counseling and if needed arrange long-term counseling and the SAP (Student Assistance Program) and Tier II support. Counselors can teach students tools to improve and cope with different situations, especially because sometimes it's hard to figure out where to start. Students may be want to see a counselor for the following reasons:
- Want to share an experience/feelings
- Feel depressed and/or lonely
- Have thoughts of self-harm
- Feel stressed and/or anxious
- Feel angry and/or frustrated
- Want to improve grade(s)
- Talk about college/careers
- Relationship/peer issues/conflicts
- Personal issues (divorce/separation, loss of a loved one, etc.)
To learn more or to schedule a meeting, please contact your student's school counselor.
