Training for School Leaders
In this four-hour asynchronous training, we will review the problems and negative effects chronic absenteeism has on the students, classroom, school, family, and community as well as the research findings. We will evaluate what works and does not work ultimately creating an outline of a multi-tiered system of support plan for absenteeism. Participants will obtain a wide range of resources to support their plan including possible approaches, motivations, and parent/community supports.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
Review the problems and negative effects chronic absenteeism has on students, classroom, school, family and community.
Read the research findings on chronic absenteeism.
Evaluate strategies that support student attendance and those that do not.
Create an outline of a multi-tiered system of support for absenteeism.
Access a wide range of resources to support the multi-tiered system of support plan.
For Classroom Teachers
In this 2-hour training, teachers will review what the research says about the negative effects chronic attendance has on students, family and the classroom. Teachers will explore what works and does not work and reflect on current practices. Ultimately, teachers will consider what they can do to help their students increase attendance.
