Week 2 Term 1 SFDS Newsletter

St Francis de Sales - Wednesday 16 February 2022

MARY-ANGELA'S MESSAGE

Covid Risk Management Update

Given that the Covid numbers are rising steadily across the country, it is important that we have a plan as a school as to how we will manage a case reported at SFDS.

Over the past week, we have been planning ahead to possible scenarios, such as a child or staff member being identified as being Covid-positive. Different scenarios may result in different kinds of management of the school, approaches to learning and ways to keep our people safe. It is important that you are aware of our plans.

A few schools across Wellington now have the experience in managing cases in their school. We are learning from these schools, and using support provided by the Ministry of Education. We are now finalising a COVID Business Continuity Plan specifically for SFDS. In this plan you will see a variety of typical contexts that schools with cases have experienced. Please be aware that this plan is dynamic - and may still be changed, in response to new knowledge.

Term 1 Learning Conferences

Many of our parents and caregivers have asked about an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher. In response to this, we have decided to bring forward the normal Term 1 Learning Conferences to a little earlier in the term than originally planned - in just over a week.

Dates:

Tuesday 22 February 3-6pm

Wednesday 23 February 3-6pm

This is your opportunity to sit down for 10 minutes with your child and their teacher - share your thoughts about their strengths and needs at school, and aspirations you have about their time at SFDS this year. This will help us all be ‘on the same page’.

Today, your child will be bringing home a Getting to know your child form that allows you to make some notes prior to the meeting. Please bring this form with you to your child’s meeting.

Please book a time to meet the teacher(s) online:

Go to https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/ and enter g427q to make a booking

On each of these days, school will finish at 2:30pm so the conferences can start at 3pm.

Please collect your child/ren at 2.30pm if you are able. If not, they will be supervised in the school library until 3pm where they will be then walked down to the bottom court to be collected from there.

If children normally walk home from school they may leave at 2.30pm if approved by parents (please let their teacher/s know).

If you have any questions or difficulty booking your conferences please contact Suzanne or Fran at the school office.

We look forward to seeing you then!

DRS MESSAGE

A little note from the team at Caritas regarding our support with the He Oranga Taurikura - A Thriving Life five year programme. The money we raised as part of our Mission Fair last year help support local communities in the Pacific and South East Asia to reduce the impact of poverty with a focus on girls and women, refugees and migrants, and indigenous peoples. Thanks again to everyone who supported this cause!

It’s week 2 and we are back into the swing of things here. The Rosary Statue is making its way around some of the classes this week. We will be beginning our class masses with Fr Doug. Unfortunately in the red setting we are not gathering as a whole school and some of our celebrations and reflections will look a little different this term.
