Cougar Courier

September 19, 2020

Greetings from Dr. Garcia!

I want to thank everyone who participated in our Spirit Week! I know it looked differently this year, but we loved seeing our Cougars participating online. We want to give a special thank you to the families who attended the drive-thru parade. It was a joyful experience for all who attended. The CIA Leadership Team would also like to thank Paleteria y Neveria La Rosita for their help with the paletas.

Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on September 15th. Expanding our understanding and appreciation of different cultures is a kay aspect of the IB approach to teaching and learning. We strive to cultivate globally-minded scholars who recognize that we are all connected and part of a larger community. We hope that the next month will provide scholars the opportunity to learn more about how our world, and local community, has been shaped by the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx people.

On Monday, September 21st, the School Board will vote on a re-opening plan. Please tune in and complete the eLearning preference survey. You can find the link to the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd09plyx56BMq3EY4IV4X8mhQ-B-jAvNGutzHqn62QhKcxcWQ/viewform

Once a re-opening plan has been approved and the survey window closes, I will begin to share information about re-entry. We thank you for your patience, encouragement and support during this unprecedented time. Please know that we have been working diligently to prepare the building for reopening.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy the weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia

Curbside Library Book Pick-Up

DJ Manou at WSBT interviewed SBCSC librarians Dee Simpson (Clay International Academy) and Philip Dallmayer (Jackson Middle School) about the district’s new curbside pickup program, #BookstoGo. See the story here. Remember, students can order books online and request them to be sent to the most nearby school.
