gymnastics competition
Our young gymnasts from Years 1 and 2 did ever so well at the gymnastics' competition for Ripon schools held at Greystone Community Primary School on Wednesday. There were some strong individual performances, with medals gained, and our team efforts won three trophies! Our thanks to Mrs Baker, Mrs Haigh and Mrs Salden for accompanying the children. A special thank you to Mandy our gym instructor for all her coaching skills.
aiming higher
As well as links with local primaries, we also have a good relationship with secondary schools in the area. This week it was Outwood Academy's turn to host some of our Year 6 children for a special day of activities encouraging them to 'Aim High'.
christingle celebration
On Monday 5th December, our school will be a joining a Christingle celebration in support of The Children’s Society at Ripon Cathedral. On this special occasion we are proposing to keep the children after school. We will eat a jacket potato together and walk up to the Cathedral for a 5pm service.
We’re really excited to be working alongside the Cathedral on this joyous occasion, raising money to support The Children’s Society’s work with vulnerable children and young people across the country.
Christingle celebrations are magical, candle lit services well enjoyed by children and adults alike, and we would be delighted if you and your family could join us at ours at 5pm on Monday 5th December. We will send out a letter early next week with a few more details. We are assuming that all children will be attending unless you let us know, so please be sure to return the reply slip at the bottom of the letter if your child will NOT be staying on at school for the service.
parent forum
The Parent Forum is meeting on 28th November after drop off in the morning. All parents are welcome to attend but you may prefer to give your ideas to your class rep. This term we will be focussing on healthy eating and home-school links. Thank you again to the parents who volunteered to be class reps, we look forward to welcoming you to our first meeting.
charity matters
Mrs Lumb is our woodwind teacher, and her daughter is going to Zambia in February to work with Vision Aid. Mrs Lumb will be leading an assembly in January to tell the children all about the importance of sight correction, but meanwhile, we wondered if you'd like to consider donating any unused glasses for the project? You can hand them in to the school office. Thank you.
The Year 6 Charity Group would like to thank everyone who has brought donations to the box in the entrance area. It has been full to overflowing more than once, but don't worry, we're happy to make space for more gifts for local children in need at Christmas time! The deadline for donations is Monday 12th December, thank you.

Friends of Ripon Cathedral School Update
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Cathedral Christmas Fair tomorrow. We are selling beautiful pots of hyacinths which make a great Christmas gift for family and friends. A big thank you to our army of volunteers who did a fantastic job potting the hyacinths this week, and to Helen for hosting us in her office!
Raffle tickets have now been put in your child's book bag - please return ticket stubs, money and any unsold tickets in a sealed envelope by the 7th December. Thank you for your support with this. And a big thank you to all the volunteers who sold raffle tickets on behalf of the Friends at Booths this week, your help is really appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has offered their help for the School Christmas Fair on the 8th December - we'll be in touch soon with more details. If you haven't contacted us but can spare a bit of time to help on the 8th, please let the school office know. The more the merrier!

Breakfast Natters takes place on Thursday 1st December in Thorpe Prebend House (diagonally opposite the Cathedral Hall) straight after school drop off. In November our governor and Cathedral volunteers were delighted to see seventeen families having coffee and a Danish pastry, with playtime for the youngsters.
