Horizon Lorain's Senior Breakfast Honors College-Bound Achievements
On November 1st, we celebrated a fantastic achievement – every single one of our 31 high school seniors crushed it by completing applications to at least 10 different colleges or universities! Talk about dedication!
Our Senior Breakfast, a tradition we hold dear, was the perfect setting to pat these students on the back for their hard work. Not only did they hit the "submit" button on multiple college apps, but they were also in the running as admission departments started diving into applications from November 1st.
Let's all take a moment to appreciate the progress we're making – improving acceptance rates to four-year colleges and stacking up those scholarships! This is a big win, and we couldn't be prouder.

Tech Triumph: HSA Lorain Robotics Team Crushes 12-Hour Hackathon at LCCC
Our Robotics Team was on fire at the LCCC Hackathon, an event bringing together brainpower from all over Lorain County. Our robotics team competed with different teams from Lorain County. This event, hosted by TechCorps, brought volunteers, mentors, or judges from places like Google and Huntington.
This was our teams first go at it, and they weren't sure what to expect. Still, they rocked it and snagged the third place spot! We are excited to show case more achievements from our robotics team in the future.
Dress Down for a Cause: HSA Lorain Raises Epilepsy Awareness
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. HSA Lorain turned purple with a 'Dress Down Day' that was all about raising awareness and funds for epilepsy. It was our way of showing support during Epilepsy Awareness Month.
Our awesome students and staff, including the fabulous Mrs. Eyster, one of our rockstar teachers with epilepsy, joined the fun. They traded in the usual uniforms for something purple, turning the day into a colorful celebration of support.
Epilepsy Awareness Month is a big deal, and we wanted to be part of the movement to spread the word and break down misinformation around epilepsy. So, if you're curious and want to know more about what's going on nationwide, check out [this link](https://www.epilepsy.com/volunteer/spreading-awareness/national-epilepsy-awareness-month).
At HSA Lorain, we're not just about hitting the books. We're a community that cares, supports, and has each other's backs. We were so happy to come together and make a donation to The Epilepsy Foundation here in Ohio.

Horizon Science Academy of Lorain received a well-deserved recognition in the latest rankings by US News & World Report. The middle school division has clinched an impressive spot, securing the #19 position among charter middle schools in the state of Ohio.
This recognition is a big shout-out to our amazing students, teachers, and staff who bring their A-game every day. We're all about that academic excellence, and it's awesome to see our middle school getting the recognition it deserves.
Annual Daughter Dance: A Luau Extravaganza
Our school cafeteria was turned into a tropical paradise during our much-awaited annual Daughter Dance, and it was a blast! This year, we went all out with a Luau theme, and our little guests and their awesome companions went all in, dressing to the nines in tropical flair.
Beyond the dance moves and activities, the night was a celebration of the special bonds between our students and their guardians. Love and joy filled the air, creating a vibe that was not only festive but also heartwarming.
Our Luau Daughter Dance was more than just a party; it was a magical evening that brought our school community together. A big shout-out to everyone who made it happen, and here's to many more years of making memories on the dance floor!
Spreading Holiday Cheer: HSA Lorain's Annual Holiday Shop
Coming back from the Thanksgiving break, our elementary school turned into a winter wonderland of excitement with the return of our second annual Holiday Shop, courtesy of the Parent Engagement Committee. It's become a favorite tradition, adding a sprinkle of holiday magic to our school days.
The Holiday Shop isn't just about decorations and tinsel; it's a chance for our little shoppers to feel the joy of giving. With an array of cool gifts to choose from, the kids got to pick out presents for their family and friends. You should've seen the smiles on their faces as they carefully selected the perfect gifts – pure holiday happiness! But's not just about presents; our Holiday Shop turned into a mini math and budgeting lesson. With a budget in hand, the kids had to make some choices.
Big kudos to the Parent Engagement Committee for making this all happen. They put in the work to create a winter wonderland of choices, turning our school into a holiday shopping extravaganza.
Cheers to Our Heroes: Veterans Day Breakfast at HSA Lorain
Our annual Veteran's Day Breakfast was a day to remember at HSA Lorain as we rolled out the red carpet for some amazing Veterans at our annual Veteran's Day Breakfast. It was a morning filled with gratitude and a whole lot of heart.
Our second-grade rockstars stole the spotlight, leading the breakfast with the pledge, singing their hearts out, and showering our Veterans with handmade cards. These little gestures spoke volumes about the appreciation we feel for these real-life heroes.
A massive shout-out to Aramark for stepping up again this year and serving up a delicious hot breakfast for our honored guests. Nothing says 'thanks' like a hearty meal, and our Veterans sure enjoyed it!
Now, why do we celebrate Veterans? Easy. They're the ones who've put on the uniform, stood tall, and faced challenges head-on to keep us safe and sound. They embody courage, sacrifice, and dedication to a cause bigger than themselves. Celebrating Veterans is about giving a nod to their unwavering spirit and saying, 'We see you, and we appreciate you.'
Our Veteran's Day Breakfast isn't just about food and fun; it's our way of saying, 'Thank you for your service,' loud and clear. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and show some love to the folks who've shaped our history and continue to inspire us every day.
To all our Veterans – you're not just heroes on Veteran's Day; you're heroes every day. Thank you for your service, and your sacrifice.
Horizon's Family Night Fun: Score!
Our Parent Engagement Committee hosted an awesome Second Quarter Family Night at Main Event, and it was a blast!
Our amazing staff hung out with our awesome students and their families, diving into video games, tossing strikes in bowling, unleashing laser tag chaos, and, of course, chowing down on some pizza. It was all about good times and togetherness.
Now, why is family engagement so big for us? It's like the backbone of a thriving school community. When families get in on the action, it's a game-changer. It opens up lines of communication, builds strong connections, and makes everyone feel like part of one big, happy family. We're all about creating an environment where students can shine, and family engagement is the magic ingredient.
And the fun doesn't stop there! We're gearing up for our next big shindig – the Third Quarter Family Night at Urban Air in Westlake. Trust us; you won't want to miss it!
So, mark those calendars, get ready for some serious airborne action, and let's keep the good times rolling. Family engagement is what makes Horizon shine, and we can't wait to see you at Urban Air!
Tiny Voices, Big Cheer: K-2 Stars Shine in Holiday Choir Show
Closing out the year 2023, our littlest Horizon stars in K-2 stole the spotlight with some holiday choir shows that were nothing short of magical! Under the guidance of our resident music teacher, Mr. Cochran, these kiddos brought a global twist to their festive performance.
Mr. Cochran had our students grooving to holiday tunes from all corners of the world. Students sang songs such as "Gung Hay Fat Choy," a Chinese New Year song, a bilingual tune of "Feliz Navidad," and the infectious song "Jabulani" straight from South Africa. Our little performers took everyone on a musical trip around the globe!
It was wonderful to see our students bring holiday cheer to all those loved ones who came to support them at their show.
