CHANGES TO COVID-19 MITIGATIONS
In case you missed it in last Friday’s District Newsletter, the Board of Education accepted recommended changes to our COVID-19 procedures and protocols last Wednesday. Please review the Friday District Newsletter so you understand how we are operating moving forward. This plan comes with changes to our masking protocols so there will be periods of recommended masking and required masking in our buildings that are reflected on the weekly dashboard. These decisions will be made based on the Friday dashboard and if there is a change at the school for the following week, families will receive an email from FPS Communications explaining the change.
As you can see from this week's dashboard, Pleasant View has switched to 'recommended' masking for students.
COGAT TESTING
In February, we will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all 3rd-grade students and 4th-8th grade students who are new to the district or did not take it in 3rd grade. The CogAT is used as a screening tool for verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal abilities and is used as one aspect of gifted identification. If you would like more information on our Gifted and Talented program, please see the FPS Gifted Resource Guide.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR 2/7 - 2/11
Our winter Book Fair begins Monday February 7th and runs until Friday Friday February 11th. Book Fair hours are 9 till 3 daily. If you are sending money with your child to buy books please put in an envelope with the amount written on the outside. This helps our volunteers to assist your child with buying books.. You can also shop virtually and have books delivered to your house. Any questions please reach out to Tabitha Schultz or Becky Wasikowski at bookfairpv@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting the Book Fair.
FRANKLIN FOUNDATION VALENTINES FOR STAFF!
This Valentine’s Day we invite you to surprise a Franklin Public School teacher or special staff member with a personally delivered Valentine greeting! Just let us know by completing this form who you wish to honor, and our volunteers will take care of the rest.
Remember, if you would like to recognize a staff member but are not sure of names, use the FPS staff directory to find those favorite administrative assistants and aides, custodial staff or special teachers in addition to your student's homeroom teachers.
Orders are due by February 6th. Your valentines will be delivered to the FPS school or ECC building on Thursday, February 14, 2022.
ON-SITE TESTING
As we shared in the District Newsletter on Friday (here), we have started offering an On-site COVID-19 Testing center at the ECC District Office on weekdays from 7am to 3pm for students, staff, and family/household members of positive student or staff cases or anyone deemed a close contact.
If you are contacted by our main office at the school that your child is symptomatic and needs to be picked up or released from school, you now have the opportunity between 7am to 5pm to take your child to the ECC District Office for COVID-19 testing.
Please review this document for other details and questions you may have about how this will work. Testing is another mitigation strategy to help us reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.
YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
As part of a School-Based Mental Health Grant we received as a district, we are excited to offer another opportunity to train parents and community members in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). During the YMHFA course, participants develop an understanding of the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, the importance of early intervention, and how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Participants will engage in a 2-hour self-paced course followed by a 4.5 hour in-person session with a district trainer on Thursday, February 24th from 4:30-9:00 PM. If you do not have access to needed technology for the online self-paced portion, arrangements can be made to provide you with a device and/or internet access. The deadline to register is Monday, January 31st. Please complete this survey to indicate your interest in participating. There are limited spots and an email will be sent to finalize your enrollment in the course and next steps.

LOST & FOUND
We now have a coat/storage rack outside of the main office where lost and found will be placed. Students should check this location if they are missing an item. Here are Photos of the lost and found items. Any unclaimed items for December will be donated on Friday, February 4th.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
All students are required to go outside for recess daily unless the windchill is below zero or it is raining. When the temperature is below 50 degrees students are required to wear jackets/coats. Please make sure your student is dressed properly for the cold weather with hats, gloves, scarves, boots and snow pants. Snow pants and boots are required to be worn in order for students to play in the snow. Classrooms stay together as a group on a designated area of the playground - if your child's classroom is assigned a grassy area, this makes snow pants and boots essential.
ABSENCE REPORTING
It is essential to note that student absences are now reported using THIS FORM. The Absence Reporting Form is also located as a button on the Pleasant View webpage and under the “Parents Information” section. This form will require you to enter your child’s six-digit student ID number and birthdate before you can report your child absent. The Absence Reporting Form should be used to report ANY attendance change including late arrivals, early departures, and pre planned absences for both in-person and virtual students.
