Vol. 1, No. 3 - October 3, 2019

Big picture

Hi everyone! Welcome to The Morales Monthly newsletter! It has been a fast and furious six weeks at MJH as we are coming up on the end of the first quarter grading period on Oct. 11. We have so many great things going on at MJH this month that our administrators have decided to claim it as "Fun"tober so please be sure to check out more information on that below.

The 2nd quarter will begin on October 21, when we return from Fall Break, and parents are encouraged to continue to check in with their children to ensure they are staying on top of their work and grades. Teachers will continue to make phone calls if a concern arises about your child's grades, behavior, or attendance as all of these things can inhibit their ability to be successful. Please be sure to update your phone number with our office if you have not done so already. If you are in need of access to Skyward so that you may monitor your student's grades and attendance yourself, please contact Candace Gonzalez in the front office at (830) 591-2980.

The Morales Monthly Newsletter is typically published on the first Monday of every month, but this month is so busy we had to put it out just a little earlier! Please be sure to follow and subscribe to get exclusive updates and information directly from the Morales Junior High School Staff!

Excellent Attendance!

Last month at MJH, our students continued to attend school at amazing rates! We averaged at least 94% attendance most days and have continued to do so in the first few days of October already. These rates are a huge testament to our students and their parents' commitment to success. When students are not at school, they cannot learn. They are missing valuable instruction that is taught each minute, hour, and day they are not in class. We are truly appreciative of our parents, especially, for continuing to partner with the staff at MJH to ensure their children are at school each and every day!

Fall Break!

October 14-18, MJH students and all other students in the district will not have school. Please use this time to allow your child to take a mental break and enjoy their time. We believe this break will give them just the recharge they need to jump into the 2nd quarter with the energy and motivation to get things done. Some ideas for things students can do to stay busy during the break locally are posted below under Local Events in October.

"Breakfast in the Hallway" Comes to MJH!

What is "Breakfast in the Hallway"?

After Fall Break, Morales Junior High is rolling out a new initiative called "Breakfast in the Hallway." Through this program, students at MJH will be served breakfast in the hallway prior to the beginning of 1st period. This program is being piloted by a man named Adrian Rodriguez who is conducting a case study for Baylor University over the benefits of breakfast being served to students in this innovative manner. The closest school using this program, to our knowledge, is in McAllen. We are the only school In the San Antonio area utilizing it so far and we are excited to bring this opportunity to the students of Morales Junior High.

Starting on Oct. 21, the first bell for breakfast will ring at 8:30 to release students to their 1st period classes. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Any student not in the classroom at 8:45 will be counted tardy.
