Fall Parties
Just a reminder
Grades K,3,5 on October 29th- 2:40-3:20
Grades 1,2,4 on October 30st- 2:40-3:20
Scholars can wear a costume on the day of his/her fall party. Star scholars we ask that no masks, total coverage of face with paint or make-up or weapons be a part of the costume.
Please remind homeroom parent that due to many allergies we are requesting that the party snacks be limited to a sweet item, a salty item, and a healthy item.
Please communicate in your party communications that the fall party is for Centerville Elementary star scholars only. Due to space no siblings are allowed at the party. This includes siblings from the middle or high school.
This will be communicated to parents but we need you to enforce this and share with parents that they we strongly suggest they don't take their scholar before dismissal.
All star scholars will be dismissed at our normal dismissal time on the day of the parties. If they plan to pick up their star scholar he/she can meet them at their normal dismissal area.
If a parent wants to take their scholar early they must walk to the office (without the scholar) and make the request and the scholar will then be called to the office.
Thanks for your assistance.

Communicating with parents at Conferences.
I found this information from the Teacher Vision website.
https://www.teachervision.com/new-teacher-resources/parent-teacher-conferences-during-after?page=2
Greet parents in a positive manner with a smile and a handshake. Keep in mind that a well-run parent-teacher conference focuses in on the following “must do's” every time:
Provide parents with specific academic information.
Invite and obtain additional information from parents.
Listen carefully to parents. If you're nervous, you will tend to “take over” the conversation—by as much as 90 percent. Try for a 50-50 balance.
Combine your perceptions and their observations into a workable plan of action. Ask for parent ideas, and use those ideas in addressing challenging situations.
Let parents know that you are always available for follow-up (phone calls, personal meetings, etc.).
CES expectations for Conferences.
- If you work with another teacher for a content area, please make sure that you have a written progress report for that student to give to the parent. It doesn't have to be a dissertation just a simple highlight of his/her progress, including strengths and areas of need, your suggestions, and contact information.
- Example Johnie's homeroom is Mrs. Blue, but he goes to Mrs. Green's 2nd grade class for math.
Johnie is working hard to learn his math facts. We use counters and Ten Marks in the classroom to help him acquire the facts. Johnie shows great effort and will ask for help as needed. Currently he is working on, below or above the standard. We will continue to work on his area(s) of need to make sure he is being challenged or meet the standard.
Some extra Tips,
- Use a timer if you need help with staying on time.
- If you can have a seating area that is comfortable and informative with any donations or things you may need from parents to complete. Please sit on the same side of the table as the parent . No barriers during conversation.
- Greet each parent with a smile and handshake.
- Plan an outline for your conferences so that you and the parent can cover the celebrations and concerns in the 15 minutes allocated. Share the outline with the parent.
- Discuss academic progress not grades the report card will share that information.
- If there are behavioral concerns please describe how the behaviors are impacting academic progress.
- The parents do not understand the reading level letters. Just share that they are working on grade, below grade or working above the standard.
- End on a positive note.
