Principal's Message
Greetings, HMS Families,
This week I write to celebrate and share a concern with you.
The choir and orchestra concerts this week are definitely events to be celebrated - I hope you were able to make it! Mrs. Bigelow and her students showed a full house how incredibly talented they are. I am proud of their hard work and dedication to our music program. For many of our 8th grade orchestra students, they began playing their instruments during distance learning and have stuck with it despite challenges they have faced. Great, great job HMS musicians!
My concern is around cell phones and how they are contributing to the fighting and cyberbullying we have been experiencing lately. As many of you know, I, along with many staff members here, are former Hazelbrook students and we take great pride in our school. Most of all, we care deeply about each and every one of our students. The behaviors we are seeing go against our vision of being a community of care so every student can learn and thrive as well as our mission to be a school where students find social, emotional, and behavioral success; furthermore, it does not foster the traits of being kind, safe, and responsible. Next week students and families will be notified of a new “door to door” cell phone policy that will be implemented after Winter Break that will create a safer school environment. Under this new policy, which has already been implemented at other middle schools in our district, cell phone use will not be permitted from the time they enter the building until the time they leave. More details will be shared next week that I hope will answer any questions or concerns you may have.
I am looking forward to more opportunities to celebrate our incredibly talented students!
Thank you for your ongoing and continued support. We can’t do this work without you!
Take good care,
Lisa Dailey, Principal
Lisa Dailey, Directora
