Newsletter No 11 Term 3
5-18 August 2021
Principal’s Message
Kia ora koutou
Yesterday we sent home information about school photos next week. A timetable for when your child/children’s class will have their photo taken was included. Our aim was to send home instructions this week on how to order the photos but due to the lockdown, this information will be delayed. I want to reassure the community that even though the photos will be taken next week, there will be plenty of time for whānau to place their orders.
Photo Timetable:
Monday 23 August
Class Photos 5, 4, 3, 6, 7, 18, 8, 19
Tuesday 24 August
Class Photos 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16
Wednesday 25 August

Mid-Year Conferences
Thank you to those parents, caregivers and whānau who met with their child’s/children’s teacher(s) in Week 2 of this term. As mentioned in the last Newsletter we had 76% of whānau attend Goal Setting in Term 1. This term we had 65% attendance.
New Whānau Hui
Last week the Board welcomed new whānau to Rātā Street School. I would like to thank all the parents/caregivers who attended this very special time and for sharing so openly about themselves, their tamariki and the school.
Disco
A big thank you Kathleen Shanks for organising the incredible disco last week. The children had an amazing time and that’s because Kathleen and Vonnie made sure that everything was in place for a safe and fun time. I’d also like to thank Monica and the teachers that attended the event and helped out by selling goodies, making sure that the children had a good time and of course cleaning up at the end of the night. A special mention needs to be made of Mr Ellis who was the DJ on the night. He kept the children dancing and he sure knows how to work a crowd.
Jump Jam
Last week the tamariki participated in JUMP JAM 4 StarJam and I’m delighted to announce that we raised $200. All funds will go to StarJam so that they can continue to help young people with disabilities to unleash their potential through the magic of music, dance and performance. Well done everyone who took part and donated money. Check out our Facebook page for some photos of the event.
Green Card Awards
Congratulations to the following children, they had their names pulled out of a hat on Friday and won a Green Card Award. They are:
- Vincent - Room 18
- Nizmo - Room 6
- Malia - Room 11
To earn a Green Card, the children had to be ‘caught’ picking up rubbish from around the school. We have all been working hard to keep our environment clean, and I must say there has been a noticeable improvement this term. The Green Card Award prize was donated by Pita Pit, Lower Hutt. Each of the children and their families received a $70 meal voucher.
Board Games
Here are some of our tamariki with the board games that were donated to the school by Sushi Knight Gaming in Lower Hutt. They are a very welcome addition to our library and I’m sure that they’ll provide hours of fun for all the tamariki here, particularly as we have had so many cold wintery days lately.
Absences
If your child is absent, please ring and leave a clear message on the school phone line before 8.50am. You need to leave your child’s name, room number and the reason they are absent. The school phone number is 567 0096.
