The Lakeview Lowdown
September - 2023
PRINCIPAL'S PENSTROKES
Hello Lakeview Families!
It's almost time for the Lakeview Staff to get to Meet our Lasers for the 2023/2024 school year. With the start of a new school year can come angst and wonder, not only for the students, but for us as adults. Remember that our youth are watching and listening at all times, so our comments and reactions at these times are important to help support our youth in getting a strong start to the most important time of the school year.
In preparation for the upcoming school routines, it is important to start practicing things as soon as possible since students have been in a "summer mode" for several weeks. Consider these important routines:
1. Established bedtime as many have been flexible and likely up later than usual.
2. Getting up earlier as many are used to sleeping in and lounging in the morning.
3. Doing some quiet and independent activities for 15+ minutes to build back some on-task stamina (reading a book, doing a puzzle, coloring/drawing, listening to a story).
4. Strong and sometimes unexpected emotions from our students are normal. Affirm emotions and use encouraging and supportive comments reminding them the staff at Lakeview are excited to get to know and learn with them this year.
Here is a story for families read by the principal to welcome students to a new school year, Be You.
Ms. Mary Renning

Someone from Chartwell's Food Service may be in the cafeteria on the afternoon/evening of the Meet & Greet on Aug. 30, 3:30-5:30 to deposit money into student accounts.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL REMINDERS
Grades 1-4 - All students begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5
Grade K - Students with last names, A-K attend on Sept. 5, students with last names, L-Z attend on Sept. 6. All KG students attend beginning Sept. 7.
2. For the first two days of school (Sept. 5 & 6 ONLY), upon arrival all students should plan to meet in the back of school on the blacktop. There will be orange cones labeled with classroom teacher names which students will line up at and then be escorted into the building at 8:05 by their teacher to the classroom. This helps for students who may not be able to attend Meet & Greet to easily identify and find their classroom teacher as well as learn where recess lines and locations of classrooms are with adult support.
3. Due to the start of the school year being special, morning traffic/drop off and street parking can be more congested than other times of the year, so please be patient and cautious when dropping students off using the front lot or parking vehicles on Olde School Road.
4. When dropping off in the front lot, please practice with your children to be sure they are prepared to exit the vehicle promptly and safely - no vehicles should block the handicap stalls while students exit the vehicle nor any vehicle sit idling for an extended amount of time.
5. There may be different emotions and anxieties experienced the first days/weeks of school by students (and parents). This is normal and the Lakeview Staff reassures you that if there is any reason for concern or need to contact you about your child(ren).
CLASSROOM BIRTHDAY AND CELEBRATION REMINDERS
*The school office and staff are not able to share others' personal information (phone, email, address), so please consider alternative ways to invite classmates to non-school celebrations or get their contact information. Having your child share "your" contact information for other families to get in touch with you has worked best to set up playdates or invite others to celebrations.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE FOR STUDENTS
*No matter the reason for a student absence - teachers are not expected to provide virtual learning activities for absent students, but may provide and suggest some independent learning activities for an extended absence related to illness.
