Updates from the Principal

Greetings Firebird Nation Families -

Happy Friday! It has been an awesome week! We have been so excited to get to have our students back in the hallways at Falcon Middle School. I had several students check in with me throughout the week and express their thanks for being back in school. I can tell they are excited to be back and see all of their teachers and friends. Overall, I have been impressed as our students have done an outstanding job following all of our safety protocols and procedures in place.

We sent out reminders from our health room yesterday. Please make sure to review these pieces and keep your student home if they are not feeling well. We want to make sure we are all working together to minimize having to quarantine any of our cohorts as much as possible. Please continue to wear your mask, socially distance, and wash your hands when at FMS.

We distributed the remainder of the student ID's that we had from our Fall Picture day this week. We are encouraging students to wear their ID's so that we can award PBIS points when they show those Firebird RISE behaviors. If a student lost their ID or has not yet had their ID photo taken, then they will have an opportunity to do so next week on Tuesday and Wednesday during picture retakes. Please see additional information on this below.

Our coaches met this week to determine how to best conduct their sports in the coming weeks. Currently, they are drafting plans for practices, workouts, and competitions. These plans will then be submitted to District for approval to ensure all safety requirements are followed. After we receive these approvals, coaches will then begin communicating with our community on how students can get involved. Watch for more information over the next couple of weeks! We are looking forward to offering sports soon for our student-athletes!

Don't forget to check out your team's landing page for information on Parent Teacher conferences. They are coming up on February 11th and 12th. Each team has schedules and sign up opportunities available on their landing page, which can be accessed through our E-Learning page link above. All conferences will take place via Zoom at this time. We look forward to collaborating with parents about how their students are performing in their classes.

Have a great weekend! We look forward to another week of In-Person Learning next week!

Firebirds RISE - Flood Week!

We are in the middle of a Firebird RISE Flood Week at FMS. This will take place starting Friday, January 29th, and continue through Thursday, February 4th. Staff are eagerly looking for students demonstrating those Firebird RISE Behaviors and rewarding PBIS points. We have a competition going on between our staff members as to which teachers and teams are awarding the most points based on team averages. Students should definitely see increases in their accounts over this next week!

We are looking at opening the Firebird RISE store during lunches in the coming weeks so that students can spend their points on various prizes. Encourage your student to show those Firebird RISE Behaviors! We want to reward them!

Reminders about our Traffic Pattern

As we return to In-Person Learning, we want to remind everyone to be very careful as they travel to, from, and around Falcon Middle School. We ask that everyone please use slower speeds and be aware of other vehicles and pedestrians around the campus. Our SRO, Deputy Murphy, will be monitoring our area and helping to enforce our school zones. Please also remember to ONLY cross at designated crossing walks when walking around the campus for everyone's safety.

We also want to ensure we are being good neighbors to our neighborhoods around the school. Please make sure to not block any driveways as well as any of the entrances and exits to these neighborhoods. Our traffic pattern flows pretty well overall and we encourage everyone to use this within the lots at FMS.

Please watch our video below that overviews how our drop-off and pick-up lanes work at the middle school.

Winter picture day for new students (and students that missed the first picture day) will be on February 2 & 3.

If you fall into one of these categories, you will need to plan on taking pictures on February 2 or 3rd:

  • You are a new FMS student since October 8, 2020
  • You missed the October Picture Day
  • Your parents want you to re-take your photo
  • If, in your first photo, you were wearing a mask, a hat, or anything not within school regulations, you must re-take your photo. Otherwise your photo will not be in the yearbook.

Parents Step Into Starring Roles on D49 Campuses...

Starting today, you can help us build a robust team of guest teachers:

The enormous challenge we face as educators during the COVID-19 pandemic is the disruption caused by precautionary quarantines that force our teachers and support teams to stay home. Simply put, if we do not have the staff to teach in person, we have to shut our doors and resume remote learning, a pattern that is unsustainable as we strive to deliver top-notch education at D49.

Don't be discouraged, because you can help!

Using a special provisional license from the Colorado Department of Education, we are inviting our parents, and any members of the extended D49 Family to join our team as guest teachers through the D49 Parent Star Program. Click the "What's Next?" button below for additional opportunities.

If you are someone who likes working with kids, and have a flexible schedule, stepping in as a guest teacher in D49 is a great way to support our schools. It has never been easier to earn some extra cash while stepping in to star as a guest teacher.
