~ IMPORTANT NOTES ~

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

I certainly enjoy winter, but enough is enough!!! I never thought I would be caught saying, "NO MORE SNOW!!!" Hopefully, you are all staying warm and trying to make the best of this bizarre weather!

I want to extend a thank you to the PTO for supporting the 3rd Grade Dictionary project. The Hightstown-South Brunswick Rotary Club annually provides all 3rd grade students with personal dictionaries to support learning. The grant ran out this year and our PTO generously volunteered to help purchase these books. The students LOVE them!! Thank you.

As you know, the school calendar has been amended to reflect the missed time. School is in session this Monday, February 17th and Friday, March 14th. If today is a snow day, (I am writing this in advance of knowing) the Board of Education will vote on reinstating Monday, April 14th as a day of school.

Finally, stay tuned for important information regarding the upcoming PTO Raffle and Auction. We need you help!! Information will be shared via next week's Principal's Message.

Thank you for your support and have a great weekend!

Mrs. Capes :)

Five Ways to Beat a Cold

  1. Wash your hands often. Most colds are transmitted through indirect physical contact.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids. It helps flush germs from your body.
  3. Get a good night’s sleep. This keeps your immune cells powered up.
  4. Keep at least three feet away from coughers and sneezers. This helps avoid contact with airborne droplets, which may make you sick.
  5. Have chicken soup. Any warm fluids can help relieve cold symptoms and act as an expectorant.

Sleep

School age children need 10-12 hours of a sleep a night. Lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and may make it more difficult for kids to pay attention in school. It is important to have a consistent bedtime. No matter what your child’s age, establish a bedtime routine that encourages good sleep habits. These tips can help ease kids into a good night’s sleep:

  • Power down. Turn off electronics at least one hour before bedtime. If your child has a TV in their room, consider removing it. Research shows that children who have a TV in their room tend to sleep less.
  • Create a calming routine. Winding down each night with the same routine signals that it is time for sleep.
  • Stick to a bedtime. Alert your child a half hour and 10 minutes beforehand.
