Mrs. Wilson's Language Arts Class
October 26-30
6th Grade This Week
Monday the new annotated text for the week was introduced. This weeks annotated text was the play in the Scope magazine titled, "The Spider Curse." The play is based off of the myth about Arachne.
Tuesday students started to take their writing to another level and look at places they could incorporate symbolism. This is sort of a new concept for students to be putting into their writing.Wednesday students started to walk through their checklist to see what else they needed to do to spice up their writing in the final stages of revision.
Thursday students looked into their writing and identified spots where they could slow down the action and speed up the action in other spots. We compared it to some movies that we have seen where the action does the same.
Friday students looked at their story as a whole by making a story arc. This helped ensure that they had some sort of conflict or problem in their story. We also talked about transitions and how they help our story flow.
We will be wrapping up our revision and editing next week and we will start to publish our narrative writing.
7th Grade This Week
Tuesday students started to take their writing to another level and look at places they could incorporate symbolism. This is sort of a new concept for students to be putting into their writing.
Wednesday students double checked to make sure that their dialogue was authentic to the character and their characteristics. We also looked at how to take symbolism to the next level.
Thursday we talked about the rhythm of language and how we can use that in our stories. We talked about using short, choppy sentences when we want to speed up the rhythm of our story and we use long, complex sentences when we want to slow down our story to create tension and suspense.
Friday we looked at the word count of our stories. We talked about how we need to choose only the words that carry the most meaning.
We will be wrapping up our revision and editing next week and we will start to publish our narrative writing.
Late Work Policy
If an assignment is late, the students will get 10% knocked off of their grade. This means that no assignment will be accepted for a grade that is later than 2 weeks.
Remember if a child is absent, they get the number of days that they were absent to hand in the missing work. If it is not in after those grace days, the late work policy will kick in at that time.
