Mr. Mauck's Musings
Two quick positives as we head into Homecoming Week next week. The first is we got to welcome back Dr. Nalley our assistant principal this week. The second is from our #Acclaim program which recognizes positive actions by our students and staff. An English teacher filled out the form for a student that had not been driven or focused on school much as a Freshman. This student has made a remarkable transformation in attitude and effort toward school earning all A's and B's to start the year. They were even assisting other students in the class. This is just a reminder to all of us that a positive attitude leads to positive effort and positive actions. We are all very proud of this student.
The best Band in the Land will host the Dubois County Showcase at Alumni Stadium on Saturday the 10th. Your Marching Wildcats will take the field around 8 pm. Come out and support our hard-working band students in their first performance. They will follow Saturday up with a competition at Paoli on the 17th at 8:55 PM.
Many of the StuCo members will be decorating the hallways Sunday for a decorating competition between the classes for Homecoming Week. The kids always come up with the best themes. We will have themed dress-up days next week and class games during homeroom to earn spirit points. All this activity culminates in the homecoming ceremonies at the football game next Friday. After the game, there will be a school dance behind the South endzone featuring The Curve 91.7 as DJ. If you have not checked out the newly expanded radio station just tune to 91.7 anywhere in Dubois County and beyond. Thanks to Dr. Lorey and the School Board we were able to purchase a new transmitting tower that will allow our radio and TV programs to expand and branch out with new opportunities for students. Mrs. Mundy shared a few pictures of her class making neurons in Psychology class. Who doesn't like a candy nervous system?
Juniors have begun the fall fundraiser for prom. Students please check your school email frequently for information and to understand how the process will work. At the end of September, the three other schools will be conducting Parent-Teacher conferences. Jasper High School does not have conferences. We host a freshman orientation in February. Parents please check your student's grades in PowerSchool and contact the teachers if you have questions, concerns, or praises.
We are still looking for families to host German exchange students for a few weeks from September 27th to October 12th. Please contact Daniel Otto if you would be willing to open your home to a student from Jasper's Sister City.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend and good luck to all the Wildcats competing this weekend.
Mr. Mauck

Exchange Host Family Request
We have the chance to show our Hoosier Hospitality to groups of German kids who come to stay with us and experience our culture. We are preparing to welcome twenty kids from the Pfaffenweiler-Staufen area and host them from September 27th to October 12th. However, we find ourselves in need of host families for as many as nine of these exchange students. The chance for our families to build these friendships, gain new perspectives, share our perspectives, and exchange cultures is so valuable and should not be dismissed out of hand. This experience is worthwhile for any of our students regardless of whether or not they are taking German with me. Please consider opening your home for a visiting student for these two weeks and contact me at dotto@gjcs.k12.in.us and/or Sandy Wehr, VP of Sister Cities of Jasper, at skwehr69@gmail.com if your family is willing to participate.
My sincere thanks in advance and best wishes to all,
Daniel Otto
