Principal's Message
Grizzlies,
WE DID IT! Hardest year ever! This is the kind of year that you will be telling people you lived through years down the road. This has been a generational event. I am so proud of all of our students who endured CDL, bell schedule changes and all kinds of stress. You all are amazing. I am also incredibly proud of and appreciative of our teachers and staff who were so flexible this year and learned new ways to teach and new ways to support students.
We do need help from all of our families to make sure that all district laptops, iPads and hotspots are returned. These need to be inventoried and prepared for next school year. You can return them next week Mon-Fri 8-4:30 on campus at the IVC.
With an eye towards next year, I am sharing our new bell schedule for next year below. Please take a look at it.
I hope that you all find ways to rest, refresh and recharge over the summer. I look forward to seeing you all next year, hopefully, under much more normal circumstances.
Best,
Benjamin Bell

Device Return
The year is almost over and it is nearly time to collect all loaned technology (including district laptops, iPads, and hotspots). After a year of hard work, we need to refresh the devices by performing maintenance and updates so they are ready for use this coming fall. To make sure this happens, we will continue to accept device returns Mon-Fri next week, 8-4:30.
Does your student plan to attend summer school? We still need your currently issued technology returned! Summer school teachers will make sure students have access to all necessary tools this summer, including technology if needed. Is your student’s loaned device a little worse for wear? Maybe it’s missing a keyboard key or has a cracked screen? We still need damaged devices returned so we can perform repairs.
You are also welcome to return devices directly to the AHS IVC Center.

College and Career Pathways
Over the course of this year, the AHS Counseling Department staff offered a variety of information sessions for students and families to learn more about exploring and planning for post high school pathways. Recordings of these sessions are available on the AHS YouTube Channel. Topics covered include College Pathways 101, SCOIR: Career & College Exploration, Finding a College Pathway that’s a Good Fit, Community College and Professional Career Programs, and Financial Aid 101.
Please reach out to Jen Marsden, AHS College & Career Specialist, if you’d like support exploring post high school pathways, or have questions about navigating the college admissions process. Ms. Marsden is available to work with both students and families on all aspects of college and career planning. You can contact her at jennifer.marsden@ashland.k12.or.us with questions, to schedule an appointment, or to sign up for an ASPIRE mentor. More helpful resources and information are included below:

ACT & SAT Updates
Students planning on applying to four year colleges usually take ACT/SAT tests in spring of junior year and/or fall of senior year. Testing will begin again in late August (see below for all 2021 test dates at AHS). If we have no more seat availability, students can look for open testing sites in Medford and Grants Pass. Many colleges are now “test optional” and Oregon’s public universities no longer require ACT/SAT test results for admission, but some do for eligibility for honors colleges or merit scholarships. Check individual universities for current guidelines.
Students register for the ACT and SAT online and those who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible for fee waivers for both tests. Please contact jennifer.marsden@ashland.k12.or.us to obtain a fee waiver.
2021 AHS Test Dates (registration deadlines are about one month before the test dates)
SAT: August 28, October 2, November 6, December 4 ACT: October 23, December 11
Oregon Community Colleges and the Oregon Promise Grant
Oregon community colleges offer a large variety of professional training in fields such as Graphic Design, Mechanics, Culinary Arts, Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy Assisting and more. Students can get the skills they need in a year or two, and graduate ready to enter the job market. Students may also complete their general education credits at a community college and then transfer to a four year university.
Tuition can be significantly less at a community college and the Oregon Promise Grant (OP) offers qualifying high school graduates the opportunity to have the majority of their community college tuition covered by federal and state grants. Learn more about the OP here.
