JUNE 2018

Big picture

As we near the end of Term 2, we enter a busy time for students in the Senior School in particular.

Year 10 students are preparing for subject selection and are busy working with their Pastoral Care teachers to make the right decisions for their future career pathway.

Please follow the link for further information for Year 10 parents:

All students have access to My Futures at: www.myfutures.edu.au

Students can register and log in using their Emmanuel email address and start to explore the career opportunities open to them.

Year 11 and 12 students are now completing exams which will be followed with a time of reflection and goal setting for the coming months. It is important to have specific goals. It is a time to explore opportunities and decide on a pathway post school.

Our upcoming University Speakers Night will inform students of the options and pathways at University.

University Speakers Night

The Bright Sparx Club is a partnership initiative between Kwinana Industries Council (KIC), CSBP, Kleenheat and Murdoch University, running for nine weeks after school.

Year 9 students were given the opportunity to apply for the program which focusses on raising confidence and aspirations of students, whilst also building an awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Murdoch University Student Ambassadors coordinate the program activities, CSBP & Kleenheat employees act as mentors and guides throughout the program and attend sessions relevant to their expertise.

Students will participate in a range of STEM based activities including excursions to CSBP (Kwinana) and Murdoch University. The program will provide students with an opportunity to work together and share experiences, raise their awareness of future technologies, and STEM careers.

This year Emmanuel Catholic College congratulates our three successful applicants; Larah Roberts, Ritika Nair and Kaiana Wadia.

Throughout the year, students in Year 10 to12 have the opportunity to take part in Try a Trade Programs.

These are organised by various training bodies to give students a taste of working in a trade environment and the work involved in a range of trades. This year we have had two groups of students trialing bricklaying and tiling and one group trying their hand at plumbing and painting.

Students are encouraged to ‘have a go’ to start to explore the options and trades open to them.

Hopefully this will then lead to positive pathway planning for their future career, where students can decide what courses they need to choose.
