Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills.
From Principal, Dra. Cárdenas
Esteemed RHE Community,
This week, we celebrated Perfect Attendance for the 1st Six Weeks, passed out report cards, had a lockdown drill, and conducted Response to Intervention meetings.
For the 1st Six Weeks, we were right on target with our goal of 96%! Thank you parents for your support in bringing our students to school. Every day counts for instruction. Each day is a new day of learning that builds on the previous day and previews the following. And we really do miss them when they're not present. Unless they have a medical excuse, we ask that they come to school every day. We're at 96%, can we reach 97%? Let's do it!
On Wednesday, our Report Card day, we know many of our RHE staff and families enjoyed some pizza from Little Ceasars in San Benito. 20% of any purchase made between 4:00 and 8:00 pm will return to our students for incentives throughout the year. We have partnered with Little Ceasars for them to support us in this way every Report Card day for the rest of the year!
We had an announced lockdown drill recently. Parents, please help us in speaking to your child about the reason and importance of these drills. It is our priority to keep our students and staff safe at all times.
This week, we'll continue with Response to Intervention meetings. This is where teachers make an official recommendation for students who need intervention. They communicate the skills the student needs and the strategies they will be using to address their need. If your child was recommended, your child's teacher will let you know at your Teacher-Parent conference this month.
We are delighted to have begun our extra-curricular activities this week. We began with Choir (3rd-4th) and Marathon Kids (1st-4th). Coming soon: UIL (2nd-4th), Folklórico (1st-2nd), Battle of the Books (3rd-4th), and Robotics (3rd-4th).
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We'll see you back on Monday, bright and early at school before 8:00am.
At Your Service,
Dra. Betty A. Cárdenas
