That's A Wrap...
It has certainly been an interesting year.
Remember back in January when we were all surprised by how few snow days the Winter had given us? And yet, here we are...
As we say goodbye to the 2019/2020 school year, we want to thank you all once again for making Sutherland more than just a school. It has never been more apparent how important a home/school connection is. We miss you all and wish our 8th-grade students luck as they head off to high school. To our soon-to-be 6th grade Sharks, we bid you all welcome! And to those moving up a grade: we cannot wait to see you all again (whenever that may be) and see how much you all have grown and changed!
As we head out, just a reminder that we encourage all students to check their school e-mails throughout the summer. Parents and guardians, I am sure we will send out more information as it becomes available as to what next year may bring. Thus, it is not a good-bye, but a good-bye-for-now. We hope you all have an amazing summer and thanks for helping make this current year a huge success!
General Announcements:
- Albemarle Girls Cross Country is hopeful that the fall season will still start on time. If you are a rising 8th grader or 9th grader and are interested in running for Albemarle Girls Cross Country (or have questions) please contact either Coach Cathy Coffman at coffmancathy63@gmail.com OR Senior Cassidy Guyton at cassidy.p.guyton@gmail.com. The senior leaders will be organizing preseason running groups starting June 8th.
- Yearbooks will be distributed to students on the day that they come to clean out their lockers. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, you may still do so here or you may bring a $30 check or cash on the day of locker cleanout and purchase one directly at the school.
- We are asking that students return library books and other items they have checked out from the school on the day of locker cleanout. We will send students individual emails regarding the items we have identified as needing to be returned.
- A huge shout out to Mr. Stow and Ms. Nixon for an awesome 8th-grade rock (pic above). Ms. Nixon's shark is awesome!!!
- A second shout out to Mr. Eric Johnston for putting together the 8th-grade ceremony video. It is still uploading right now and will be available shortly.
Locker Cleanout:
We are hosting a locker cleanout from June 10 - 16. Please use this link to sign up for a time to come and clean out your lockers. We will be following the protocol below:
Students will use the Sign Up Genius to select a 20-minute slot to come into the building.
Due to the limited number of people allowed in the building at a time, parents will need to remain in their cars, and ONLY students will be allowed to enter the building to collect their belongings.
We will provide students with small trash bags to put the items from their lockers in.
Students will enter through the cafeteria and return any items they may have, go to their gym locker, hallway locker, and exit through the 8th-grade doors.
We will have a small number of staff available to support students in this process.
If you are unable to pick up items from your locker, please make arrangements with Ms. Wood for an alternative pick up time. Items not picked up by June 30 will be donated.
Student Laptops:
Please note that students are not required to turn in their laptops but we will be collecting laptops for students who would like to turn them in for the summer. Please see below regarding additional information regarding laptops:
Click here for a Basic Troubleshooting Guide to assist with any technical issues that may arise over the summer. (Spanish Version)
The Department of Technology has created a Technology and Digital Citizenship Field Guide for ACPS Families to support students and families with safe and responsible use of technology. (Spanish Version)
Student internet browsing on ACPS devices will continue to be filtered per federal requirements.
ACPS Service Desk will continue to be available for any technical assistance you may need. To reach the Service Desk, call 434-975-9444, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or email at ACPSServiceDesk@k12albemarle.org
